Loose fill insulation for DIY use?

Quick query, We have a garage conversion on internal garage in house, and the inside of garage walls are timber studs, with foil backed plasterboard attached to the studs. There is no celotex/kingspan or any other type of insulation between the plasterboard and the internal garage brick...

F&E cistern tank water minimum water level

Tony, I think it is you and your forum cronies who are angry and abusive, because a DIYer has managed to solve the problem, when none of you even mentioned to check the F&E cisctern water level !! I stand by my thoughts that most trades are conmen, cowboys and rip off merchants. And, like...

F&E cistern tank water minimum water level

Problem solved, F&E tank topped up to 100mm ish of water, and now all loft room rads fully purged of air and piping hot. Shows what you nob heads know !!!!!!!!! I worked out and fixed the fault myself and I have zero years of CH experience !!!! I am glad that none of you cowboys got...

F&E cistern tank water minimum water level

Yeah, happy days for you maybe, not so happy for all the poor people your employer screwed over the years, and whilst profits were maximised through rip off service contracts and call outs, the BG staff earn a pittance. And you call me a loser?!!! :D Maybe, with your great pension...

F&E cistern tank water minimum water level

Whilst eveyone jumped onto the 'just convert to a sealed system' bandwagon (even though I have previously stated I have old pipework in this house) the problem is likely to be that the F&E cistern in the loft only has 4 cm of water in it. I would think that a slight bending of the ball valve...

    Quick central heating question !

Tony, like I said, I know nothing about CH systems, other than what I have read whilst trying to get the bottom of this issue. I thought that a system boiler is needed if you have or need/want a sealed system? A week ago I did not even know what a sealed system is. I think that any...

    Quick central heating question !

No jeff. I did not specify anthing. All works were done as part of the loft conversion project. I am not a plumber or CH expert so why would I tell the plumber how to do his job? As I understand it, anyone who installs a boiler has to be gas safe, so that implies that only a competent...

    Quick central heating question !

THanks Yerino, that is the sort of answer I was looking for. Yes the existing CH pipes in our house are at least 30 years old, but at least I now have some info that I can challenge the plumber with. He did seem very competent to me, and I also spoke to a very experienced and highly recommend...

    Quick central heating question !

To clarify on my comments above, I would say the distance between highest rad in the house (the loft room towel rad) and the new F&E tank is in fact only about 2 feet or so. I just turned of the CH and HW at the digital controller, and slid the manual slider on the Motorised Valve in airing...

    Quick central heating question !

I will bleed the top storey rads with the CH off and motorised valve set to open and then get back to you. The vertical height distance between the F&E tank and the hightest point of the towel radiator in the loft room is approx 4 feet or so I think.

    Quick central heating question !

Please explain then how his answer to my post is helpful to someone who is not a plumber or CH engineer? Why would I want to change my CH to a sealed system when I have just had a brand new 'conventional' boiler installed with brand new vented coffin tanks? If I wanted a sealed system I would...
