New mains water supply replacing shared pipework, diy job?

Just to follow this back up. Did all the work and it was inspected today. UU's signed it off no issues and remarked "wish they were all like this", so i was very pleased. Now waiting for a connection date which depends if they will be running a new main up the street or connect it to an...

Wooden floor insulation, exp.foam between ext walls & jo

I've inspected some of the brick work underneath the floor and because the the joists sit below the dpc some of the brick work on the external walls isn't bone dry (it's a 188x terrace). I was concerned about possibly drawing moisture from the bricks into the insulation and then the joists...

Wooden floor insulation, exp.foam between ext walls & jo

I'm going to be insulating a suspended wood floor by lifting the existing floor boards and using some chicken wire and rolls of insulation hung between the joists. Then laying some new sheet t&g flooring back down. My only concern is a possible wicking effect between the external walls and...

New mains water supply replacing shared pipework, diy job?

I've found some 28mm core 19mm wall of some similar spec insulation to Armaflex but cheaper. http://www.pipelagging.com/28mm-black-foam-pipe-insulation-class-19x028-p-4194.html I've asked them if they can supply the 25mm wall version :)

New mains water supply replacing shared pipework, diy job?

Many thanks again bolshy, appreciate all the advice and help. I might be in luck as in my cellar its looks to have been previously open to the street / pavement for ventilation and filled in at some point. My simple mind is hoping there is only a course or two of bricks between me and the...

New mains water supply replacing shared pipework, diy job?

Thanks for the info. The current supply comes into the the rear of the property from a different street via my neighbours so this will be all new to the front from my road. This is why i'm curious about how to marry up the work from my side to the street side.

New mains water supply replacing shared pipework, diy job?

Advice required please. I’m in the planning stages of replacing our kitchen and because we are connected to a shared water supply pipe and have variable water pressure to put it mildly I’m considering replacing the mains supply at the same time. The floor in the kitchen will be back to the...

    What did i do wrong!

Quick update on this, changed the fire hinges to regular hinges and it closes perfectly now. Will have to find a replacement fire hinge that differs from the current ones.

    What did i do wrong!

No it doesn't but that's not really a cup as such, just a sort of strike plate (2nd picture on the previous post). The plastic V shape hits this plate this as the hinge is opened but doesn't get near it when closing. I would have expected the plastic V shape to nestle into something when...

    What did i do wrong!

I've checked and the aren't the V shaped type (compared them against my other windows), and no closing wedges. Here's the hinge on and off the window: From what i can tell they're identical to these...

    What did i do wrong!

Really need some help please. Fitted a window tonight with a side hung opening (fricton fire hinges). The problem i have is the lock / handle side when closed is perfectly tight to the frame but the hinge side isn't. It doesn't sit flush against the frame so much so you can get your fingers...
