Chimney breast in loft, brick repair urgent or not??

Thanks Jacko. I'll keep an eye out for the spider! ( if I ever go down there again - can't stand just walking on the joists if I can avoid)

Chimney breast in loft, brick repair urgent or not??

I don't think its mould. I checked myself at the time. A bit cobwebby Thanks for your reply I think there was probably a historic leak in that area from way back before it was last reroofed.

    Possible condensation in attic?

The more insulation on the floor of the loft, the more likely water vapour will condense on the wood above etc due to the temperature drop as less heat from the house is able to get through. The more the insulation, the more important the loft space is ventilated.

Chimney breast in loft, brick repair urgent or not??

Over the past couple years when there has been a lot of windy driving rain (that seems to happen more often these days), we have noticed spots of water staining in the back bedroom ( old terraced house) coming from the loft above, approx 30cm away from the edge of the chimney breast After...

Doubling up insulation board? Good or bad idea

This may not apply to you; In a general sense, humidity will condense on the coldest spots. When the weather gets very cold, where there is plenty of insulation, it will stay warm, but where there is insulation missing the cold spots my act like a magnet to damp air condensing on those points...

Floor boards star head screws, no screwdriver to fit

Thanks for input and helpful info. I read somewhere that when a plumber needed to raise floorboards on an install they used a crowbar to raise the screwed down floorboards and ruined the boards/joists. So I need to have the correct screwdriver ready ! just in case

Name this embossed wallpaper ..... (old)

I've chucked the pieces now. They had lime plaster on the back so they felt substantial with layers of paint, but just seemed like embossed 'wallpaper' to me.

Fabulous story Pete. So that sounds like it means it's a pre-1963 pattern. I'm quite sad that my wallpaper's days are likely limited now. It looked great until the accident.
