    Tap heads

Awesome thanks! Though, HOW do I do that? I can't get enough purchase on it using my hands, would I use a grip wrench type thing with something under it to stop it from scratching the chrome? This kind of thing

    Supporting a desk

I do get your jist. I haven't sorted the batten out yet, but can easily make it that deep and make the relevant cut This seems like the way to go, thank you sir! I don't mention what the span is. What is 'the span' ? :)

    Supporting a desk

That's a good idea! How would I secure it? Screw up into the wood from underneath? It's 27mm thick so deep enough for a screw and hopefully strong enough to not bend, with the above in mind No need for a bracket in that case? Also John, by peg leg you just mean straight down to the floor...

    Supporting a desk

Cheers Js! James - welcome! A large piece of plywood the same size as the desk top? Or just supporting the middle? I thought the gallows type bracket might be the way forward, but how to fix it on? The building is a log cabin, so I can screw the bracket into the wall, or on the floor; but...

    Supporting a desk

Afternoon I just ordered 2 bits of kitchen worktop that I'm going to use as the surface of a desk. It'll have multiple monitors and some studio equipment It'll be in the corner of the room, so I was planning on screwing 2x lengths of wood into the wall and then resting (I'll screw it down, or...

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

I just bought a decorative rose that has a cavity large enough so that I can stick it over the electrical rose - is that ok? I read somewhere that this shouldn't be done because access to the wiring is required, but that a 'maintenance free' replacement for the MF rose should be used

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

Cheers Owain The light that we're installing has a tiny rose, not even big enough to house the junction box that came with the light. See pic: For this type of light, do I need to have all the wiring in the loft rather than on the ceiling of the bedroom? Otherwise, I don't get...

Ceiling rose assistance (not wiring related!)

Evening I want to put up a polyurethane ceiling rose, but I don't want to lose the existing fitting. Do the slightly ornate versions have any space in the centre for wires etc? In addition, I want to fit a 75mm rose to the polyurethane one, but not sure if I can screw into it? The light...

Repainting old doors - how much to sand off?

Cool thanks. Not bothered about the mouldings or anything so will just go at it with sandpaper, get it all smooth Undercoat wise, do I need to use a specific primer?

Repainting old doors - how much to sand off?

Afternoon My house is approx 120 years old, the doors look like they're at least half that, if not more I'm going to re-paint a different colour so my question is how far back I need to sand? I plan to use a primer prior to painting over in eggshell, and know that I need to get at...
