    Close coupled central heating?

Hi I have a vented CH system consisting of 3 zones - up, down and HW only. Pump is a Groundfos 25 50 and has been operating without issue since at least 1993. The first radiator on both downstairs circuit and upstairs circuit both fill with air within a couple of weeks of bleeding and have done...

    Domestic vs industry GE rcbo

Hello I have a GE consumer unit (RCD side and non RCD side). My bathroom circuit is currently protected by B10 MCB on the non RCD side. I would like to provide rcd protection for this circuit. The attached file gives the specs of GE B10 30mA rcbo. There are two versions (I) domestic and (II)...

    Overload protection for swa

Hello I have a granny flat fed via 6mm2 three core swa with the live core connected to the load side of a 63A neozed fuse in the house consumer unit. (In Ireland the live tail from the meter is connected to a neozed fuse ( as referred to above) as opposed to live and neutral entering via a...

    Summerhouse

Is it as I suggested by glanding into the metal cu.

    Summerhouse

Fair point. My metal box is in the loft and to be honest I haven’t seen it in the nine years since I installed it so I am not reminded of its ugliness. How do you earth the armour as a matter of interest?

    Summerhouse

Hello Suray I’m referring to a my own situation where the house had a plastic rather than a metal house cu. I presume you’re saying that the armour would ideally be earthed via the metal cu if present?

    Summerhouse

Your registered electrician might also suggest that the 32 A mcb be on the non-rcd side of your house cu and that the armour is glanded into a metal adaptable box at the house end and earthed back to the earth bar in the cu. At the summerhouse end the armour should be glanded into a plastic box...

Recommendations for generator for emergency use

I bought one in Lidl (parkside around 2.5 kW I think) about 10 years ago. Family thought I was nuts but around two years later during a massive storm we (along with most of Ireland) lost power for 4 days and family thought I was a great fella being able to keep the oil fired central heating on...

    IR values for new cable.

Thanks for your reply John. I was in fact expecting a very high value but all the emphasis is usually on the lower end so I was finding it difficult to get info about possible upper values. Many thanks.

    IR values for new cable.

Hi I have used a Kewtech KT35 to find insulation resistance of new 1.5mm cable. The values at 250, 500 and 1000V appear to be in excess of 2000 mega ohms i.e the upper limit of the instrument. Would these values be normal? Thanks

Screed curing time before laying laminate floor.

Hi I’ve had to break up some of the screed in my living room to replace burst central heating pipes. After I have installed the new screed (sand cement 4:1 at 50mm) how long should I cure the screed for before laying a laminate floor? Any help or other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    Insulation resistance measurement

Hello I am planning to carry out IR measurements on cables supplying an outbuilding. The outbuilding was wired about 15 years ago with some of the run buried. The run is 6mm three core armoured from house cu under concrete to cu in granny flat. From 20amp MCB in the granny flat cu, 6mm three...
