Hi thanks for your reply. I was hoping to insulate from inside between the rafters rather than add more height.
If I was to go the way you suggested though would you remove the existing felt or celotex and board straight over?
Hi
Just had a summer house installed which has had a layer of 'green' felt placed on top of the t&g roof boards. The installers quite rightly warn that if we want to insulate, install electrics and use as a more-often-than-not room then we would be better off with a more permanent roof.

Cheers Noseall. By mechanical extractor I take it you mean a dehumidifier? Are there 'slim' concrete blocks I could use to create a cavity wall that a) wouldn't decrease significantly the internal dimensions whilst b) avoiding any condensation/damp related issues?
Well observed. You can blame baby for the need for extra space. I blame him for having to sell my S3 anyway...
Back to the task in hand - thoughts anyone?
Forgot to add I wish to house a dryer (externally vented) and dishwasher or a washing machine and dryer (not decided on the combo as it all depends on the internal space I end up with hence the importance of single skin) if that affects decisions over internal coverings etc.
Is it possible to build a single skin porch out of breeze block only? Obviously up to DPM it will be engineering bricks. The front of the house (up to 1st floor height) is rendered anyway and I need to maximise my internal space of the porch.
At the same time I wish to avoid any internal damp...
Noseall and Woody - many thanks that info is just what I'm looking for. I've been ldoing a bit of research recently so it makes a lot more sense now too.
Again, many thanks.
Thanks for the info its about what i expected.
In terms of pitch, I wish to match the existing roof therefore I will be governed by that and the tiles that are up there. Good point about the glass per floor level - I'd not considered that.
In terms of physical construction, are you...
Exactly right - the ceiling to be on the underside of the rafters rather than having a horizontal regular flat ceiling - this is a single storey.
If you can recommend a good roofing book to read that would be appreciated. WHat degree of pitch should i be looking for for example?
I'm about to embark on an extension project to the rear of my house - 2x4. The only part I have very little experience of is roofing and I want to create a vaulted ceiling look.
Can anyone give me an idea how this is best achieved? I plan on fitting french doors to the rear opening or even...
