Thats what my system does , a large loft tank with a pump and float switch, this pumps water from the leaking underground storage tank into the loft tank.
Thanks for the reply,
As I see it a repair would be out of the question, the hatch is so small only a child could fit through it, think that would be illegal . Also as the tank is 40 years old it may not be long before we get another puncture.
There is not enough room to fit another tank...
Hi All,
I,ve posted here as it seemed the most likely place, Admin please feel free to move if neccessary.
My home has a spring fed water supply and after filtering etc the water is piped into a 1200 litre (approx) underground tank.
Unfortunately a puncture has appeared right at the bottom of...
Hi All,
Simple question
Can any experienced plasterers offer any advice on which is the best float to buy for final finish on plaster ?
I have heard that the plastic ones are good , I have one half decent steel float, this I use for applying bonding and the top coat with surprisingly good...
Having considered everyones input to my project , I think I will leave it this year , but next year I will consider puttinging in a thermal heat store , then some solar panels and also the back boiler.
So next move is to try and get a backboiler for my Stovax, Stockton 11 woodburner which sits...
Madrab,
Thanks for your input,
It will be an open vented system and am curious as to your term "safety device" are you referring to a pressure relief valve which would be beneficial in a sealed system. Yes, I could put a heat sink radiator in the circuit in case of pump/power failure.
Yes a multifuel stove would be more efficient, I agree.
The purpose of my project is to percolate some of the heat around the house , as long as it just takes off the chill in the non lived in rooms that will be fine.
The main bedroom above the woodburner room is currently around 14~15 degrees...
Update ,
Ok Ive had chance to provide a drawing of my intended addition to the system .
As you can see the backboiler (orange area) will go in parallel with the boiler and the circulating pump will be controlled by a pipe thermostat near the woodburner , This will switch the pump on when the...
Thanks, that's certainly an option. I have seen a matrix of copper pipe secured to the rear which looked appealing. Tho not as efficient as a heat exchanger..
One would assume the return from the backboiler connects to the main return somewhere near the boiler and the flow connects just...
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply,
I see your point and its an interesting one ,
Something I had noticed is the rear of the woodburner is cooler than the other surfaces and I assume this is because of the firebrick stacked in the rear of the stove casing. So, in theory it may not get too hot for the...
Hi All ,
I am contemplating "hanging" a radiator on the rear of our 12kw Stovax woodburner then plumbing this into the CH system.
Our setup comprises an oil fired open vented system serving several rads and DHW tank , we live in the middle of knowhere and our firewood is free.
we are not...
Thanks for the reply. We are pretty much off grid up here in the wilds. We have electricity but no gas , water is from a spring and a well. The oil delivery only occurs in the summer when the track is ok for the tanker. Wood is in abundance hence my thoughts on the back boiler.. I will follow...
Hi All,
Last year I installed an open vented oil fired CH system also serving the DHW in our cottage .
This was commissioned by a local engineeer who was impressed with my DIY skills , It does help that
I trained as an electrician/plumber upon leaving school some 40 years ago.
Now, hopefully...
