Mounting hardiebacker at base of chimney

Cheers - I have the sealing plate. I picked up a length of aluminium angle and attached it to the wall on either side. I should be able to pilot and attach the hardiebacker to them using drywall screws.

Mounting hardiebacker at base of chimney

I'm looking to have a stove installed within a chimney, no combustible materials can be mounted within the chimney (plasterboard is apparently classified as combustible) The sides and back of the chimney have been skimmed with sand and cement, I'm looking to install hardiebacker where the...

    Moving mains supply

As it's metal? Is that extra over a move? Edit: If it makes any difference I noticed a buzzing from the main fuse earlier today when there was minimal load on the supply.

    Moving mains supply

I think I've managed to upload a couple of photos of the cable, can anyone identify the type of cable/set up and whether this would make any difference? http://www.diynot.com/network/straas/albums/19119 Thanks

    Moving mains supply

I was wondering if they'd be able to exploit some 'slack' in the cable to release the board and gently move it back 1.00 m? and if so, this would have an impact on likely cost as it wouldn't require rejointing.

    Moving mains supply

My mains supply is currently coming into the house under the front door, underneath the hall, then is mounted below the stairs facing toward the back of the house, the cable itself has a bitumen outer. Would it be possible for the DNO to move the cable approx 1.00 m further under the stairs...

Implications of not getting building regs?

I work in engineering, as an engineer but not structural - the calcs are simple, and any uncertaintly can be overcome by over-engineering (ie larger steel, wider + thicker pads) The work would be undertaken by someone with ~ 40 years of experience in this type of work, the roofing would be...

Implications of not getting building regs?

Really?! Seems a bit ridiculous to be honest - I understand it's there to prevent cowboy building/over enthusiastic DIYers but the costs just don't seem justifiable. It's likely that if I were to apply for building regs I'd have to have structural calcs done by a S Eng, and if all the above...

Implications of not getting building regs?

What would be the implications for not seeking building regs for the following - assume all work is done by competent tradesmen and photos etc are kept of all works; - Removal of circa 2.00 m of load bearing wall, installation of suitable RSJ onto concrete pads of sufficient size. (calcs done...
