The problem with a looped supply questions.

Thanks for the replies and it all makes sense. In our case the supply is overhead so the cables exit our properties where they connect to each other and are then clipped to the neighbour's brickwork. While not desired if they caught fire then there should it shouldn't cause much damage as...

The problem with a looped supply questions.

I understand that a looped supply involves two or more properties and the supply going into and back out of the cut out fuse and onto the the next property(s) such as shown here https://commercial.nationalgrid.co.uk/downloads-view-reciteme/430885 We've recently had an EV charger installed and...

Derating cable when covered in insulation on 3 sides.

If you have a twin and earth cable 2m long that is clipped directly to a solid brick wall with a metal capping over it and around 50mm of insulation is then applied to that wall how much should the cable be derated by? I can see that if it's completely surrounded then the factor looks to be 0.5...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

It certainly doesn't suggest it's been well proof read.

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

We have ordered a Hypervolt and their install guide says to be generous with the incoming cable size and that 10mm or larger is recommended for long runs. https://support.hypervolt.co.uk/en/knowledge-base/home-3-pro-installation-guide

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

There is a bit of merit in that and it is something I did actually wonder when organising this. Clearly there are some extra losses using 6mm2 compared to 10mm2 but I think their figures are a little misleading. They're allowing for 1125 hours use per year which at 7.4kw is 8325kWh per year...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

I'm completely with you regarding any network cable being fine for the data the charger would need but they use the data cable the CT clamp and I'm not up on how they work. 'Overthinking it' is pretty much the order of the day and as per my previous post I've messaged them to say carry on the...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

Thank you very much for that link, there are a few like that although I believe that is CCA cable so personally I'd avoid that for something like this. Solid copper is about double the cost. As per my post above as there are no real benefits to using 10mm2 cable I've messaged Octopus to tell...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

Thanks for your replies, I missed your one earlier. I can understand not wanting to utilise cable or other items provided by a customer although in this case the installer was happy to do so. It probably helped that it's a nigh on full 100m reel of cable I have and it was available for him to...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

Thanks for the reply. Cost isn't a huge driver in this decision, it's more about if there is some other reason to do it with the main ones being safety and heat. 10mm2 would actually work out cheaper as our install is between 10m and 20m so we had an additional charge from Octopus for £99. As...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

Thanks for the reply. I've heard of a number of people having problems getting Octopus to install EV chargers when it's anything other than straightforward however in our case they've been quite good. They have their rules and because it's not a straightforward install they sent someone out to...

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

Thanks for an amazingly quick response and sanity check. I just wanted to check I wasn't missing anything while I had the option to change.

Is there any/much advantage to using 10mm2 cable for an EV charger instead of 6mm2?

I've got an EV charger being installed by Octopus in a week or two and it's not the simplest of installs as the consumer unit is in the middle of the house however due to some other works occurring at the same time and with some effort and floorboard lifting on our part it looks like we should...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

As I said near the start of this thread, I do understand some of their reasons for trying to standardise their installs particularly regarding using an existing CU.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

I've just heard back from Octopus and they're happy with the photos of the gas pipe provided and therefore that gas bonding is not required so hopefully that'll solve that problem. Now I just need to improve the rod earthing.
