Wood paint recommendation (exc. Dulux Satinwood)

Any recommendations for a suitable paint for wooden railings and skirting? We have just tried Dulux Satinwood in 'timeless' white....I really don't understand how they can sell this stuff...it is like skimmed milk!!! Looking for something between a matt and mild sheen, with off-white colour...

What do you call these locking handles?

Hi We are looking to buy new interior lever latch door handles to replace the old ones. The downstairs toilet and bathroom have those handles that have a knob that locks the handle (I.e. it doesn't have a lower locking bolt that comes out of the latch mechanism). What is the correct name...

    Marble hearth on Karndean/plywood

Hi there My living room currently doesn't have a fireplace (it was built about 5 years ago..no chimney breast...although a gas pipe was there for flueless/balanced flue). We have never 'needed' a fireplace, but my wife says it would be a focal point and has finally got her own way(we have...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

Original installer came back and upped to 28mm until it enters the room where the boiler is...the last few metres were increased to 22mm. Just managed to get it up to 17mbar working pressure though! It was just enough to call out Vaillant who have now fixed the problem with a modified pump (he...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

Just reconfirmed the pressures. Standing pressure at both the meter and the boiler is 21mBar. Working pressure when it is switched to full power mode drops to 15mBar....indicating it seems that the 15mm feed at least may be restrictive enough to drop 6mBar under full load. I have emailed...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

Using the sizes I mentioned (which aren't exact, but thereabouts) I found a simple calculation online from http://www.arca53.dsl.pipex.com/index_files/gas7.htm and I calculated as follows: 12.5m + 1.8 (for fittings and bends) 1.4 + 1.2 (for 90 deg fittings) = 16.9m in total 38KW gives...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

I have read some other threads (on here and other forums) and I'm now not sure there is a problem with pipe sizing! Others seem to have much longer and complex feeds with same pipe sizing and still achieve the pressure drop. How easy is it to calculate? I have an Vaillant Ecotec 838 (38KW) and...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

The water in the system is clear....when we first had what was thought to be either a pump or flow sensor problem, the engineer was quoting prices for a power flush and spiraflow....when he changed the pump, the water drained out and he was shocked to find it was clear :) The next time we got...

A bit of a dilemma with existing boiler installation!!!

Hi I’m looking for some advice regards a boiler that was installed in my house 2.5yrs ago. The boiler is an Vaillant Ecotec Exclusive and the house has 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 ensuite shower rooms and a gas hob. When we bought the house as a new build (built by a very small time developer...

    Vaillant Ecotec Exclusive problem

Hi I have a model ecotec Exclusive 838. A while ago, I noticed that the pump could be heard running constatntly when no heating/hot water on....I found the water pressure had been low (F.22) and after refilling, it seemed to work again. Today....after having a shower, I noticed that the...

    Saw for decking

Thanks Pantsmachine for your reply. I actually bought a new 12" combination saw off a guy off eBay (as it will cut the 100mm square posts like a chop saw...and it will do my bevels for the trim). It's only one of them Rexon ones (MS12RA)....however, I only paid £110 (used an ebay/Paypal...

    Saw for decking

Hi I am beginning to install some raised decking and was thinking of purchasing an electric saw to do the job quicker (I am not allowed to take any hols over next month or so due to start of large project...and when I am off on 2 rest days after every 7 shifts, I can't rely on weather). So...
