    Plasterboard & (ply)wood joints

No reason other than I don't like coving! I'm trying, if at all possible, to get nice clean angles - the rest of the house looks great with taped corners where plasterboard meets plasterboard. I think one or two sections of architrave where there's plywood wall sections would look out of...

    Plasterboard & (ply)wood joints

Hi all Does anyone have any advice on how to get a clean joint between plasterboard and wood, mostly plywood? I have several joints where plywood walls meet plasterboard ceilings. My first choice would have been cover the ply with plasterboard and corner tape / fill as usual, but due to...

Reducing rain noise from sheet metal roof

Hi folks I'm looking for some advice on how I can reduce the amount of rain noise I'm getting in the bedroom in my sheet metal roofed extension. I'm not looking to silence it completely, just reduce it as much as possible (just now it's like sleeping inside a snare drum!) The sheet roof...

Externally T-ing drain and supply for utility room

Hi all I'm a spark, so please forgive my ignorance! I'm (on instruction from my better half) investigating the possibility of moving our washing machine and tumble drier from the kitchen to the front porch. I'm looking into the implications of T-ing off the drain and supply that runs...

Replacing steel sheets & is exterior insulation worth it

I stripped off some sections of sheeting to have a look where there were leaks in the flashing. The roof is constructed from 2x2s going parallel to the joists with 2x2s going perpendicular to that to which the sheets were fixed. Sure enough, the old felt below had pretty much disintegrated. I...

Replacing steel sheets & is exterior insulation worth it

Thanks DAZB, I'd arrived at a similar conclusion - if I use 500mm Kingspan taped flush to the bottom of the joists I should have about 200mm of ventilation space between the top of the Kingspan and the roof boards. Still not sure if there would be any benefit of insulating externally too...

Replacing steel sheets & is exterior insulation worth it

Cheers DAZB The sheets aren't too bad - mostly unsightly surface corrosion. I'd considered grinding them back and applying a new coating but decided it wasn't worth the time, effort and cost. I hadn't considered fitting new sheets directly to the old ones but I'll have a think about that...

Replacing steel sheets & is exterior insulation worth it

Hi all, first post - I'd like to start by thanking the forum members for all the advice I've picked up so far. Ta! I'm about to replace the steel box profile sheets on the extension to the rear of my house. The sheets are corroding and the flashings leak where the original slate roof meets...
