    Chimney stack removal

We are planning to have a chimney stack removed as we no longer use it and it's leaning. Will this make lots of sooty dust in the roof space, especially when the last few layers of bricks are removed to get the stack below the roof tiles? Also afterwards the top of the chimney will be open into...

    fixing curtain batten to wall

I want to fix a wooden batten to the wall above a large window to attach a curtain rail to. The batten will be 280mm long. Is it best to use nails, and if so what kind, or screws? If I screw it should I use wall plugs? If I drill a hole through the batten and into the wall should the wall plugs...

    Ceiling roses

Thanks AndyPRK. Does it not matter that the loop terminals will be empty?

    Ceiling roses

I haven't been able to get a decent photo of either rose as you can see. This is the 2nd rose plus a diagram of it below. There is a photo of the new rose too. The first rose is the same as the 2nd but has a 4th grey cable with green and black wires like cables 2 and 3.

    Ceiling roses

I want to change 2 old ceiling roses. I've done others but they were straightforward as the wires inside matched the diagram in Collins DIY book but these 2 are different. In one rose there are 4 grey cables entering it. One of the grey cables just has a red wire going from it to the live...

    Anti gravity valve

A British Gas engineer recently replaced an anti gravity valve because the upstairs radiators were getting hot even when the boiler was just set to hot water. That problem is now solved but 2 of the upstairs rads no longer get warm at all. The engineer came back and said it was an airlock. He...

I have now installed the junction box and switch and it all seems fine. Thanks to everyone who has given their help and advice over the past few days. Cheers.

    10ax switch?

The nut will come off and the conduit is firmly secured to the wall with it's own supports. The other end of the conduit goes into the garage fuse box - an old one with pull out fuses. There is another piece of metal conduit that goes from the fuse box down into the concrete garage floor and...

    10ax switch?

I'm actually a she not a he! What is choc block? Have decided to learn a bit more about wiring/circuits etc before attempting any more projects but would like to complete this one and have one last question. The existing earth wire can be seen secured under a screw in the back box. If I remove...

    10ax switch?

I don't want to use the existing switch as it is very rusty. I don't need to be able to switch the light on and off from both locations. I was going to use T&E 1.5mm as this has been used elsewhere in the garage with no problems. Although the garage is ancient it is watertight if that is your...

    10ax switch?

I want to put it further up the garage by the side door as it would be more convenient than having to walk down the garage every time we want to put the outdoor light on.
