    Thanks @Tigercubrider, @KenGMac just run a metal detector around that and can't find any screws. Will double check in the morning but it looks like the rose is just glued. I guess I will find out soon (y)

    @gc1967 thanks for reply; i was thinking about using 2in1 primer and undercoat and do two coats (i bought the one attached to this message). Do you think I still need knotting solution given it's an old wood and probably knots have been treated at some point in the past.

    Thanks all for help at the end bought one of these cheap stud finders and was able to locate the cable - inserted the drill and located it with the DMS03. Ferrite magnet wasn't strong enough or i did something wrong. Big thanks again :)

    Yeah thanks for that, the trick with compass and magnet is genius! I think i will need to buy a small magnet to be able to fish it through the vertical hole (the green one on your picture) and adjust the compass somewhere near the horizontal one that won't be so horizontal after your tip...
