Lol, no more squashed fingernails from me!

    Sewer Manhole

That's more or less what I do (without the tanker!) I have a water butt nearby and lob a few buckets down every few weeks. What I find odd is that after 20 years of this it is definitely worse recently. After the drain bloke jetted it and I had seen it looking really good on his camera...

What are wet and dry vacuum cleaners useful for and do I need one!

I wouldn't be without my cheap Lidl wet and dry vac. It mops up floods instantly, temporarily sucks water from driping plumbing fittings so you can replace them and it even worked to suck out the inside of a flooded dishwasher which had shut down. Ours doesn't have bags so creates dust if you...

    Sewer Manhole

I think the hole in the nail business is to relieve the pressure if it's causing agony. Mine is just gently and painlessly pulsing away. :D

    Sewer Manhole

Oh yes, certainly. I can already feel that the swelling underneath wants to push it off. And I know that from now on I will do nothing but catch or bang it at every possible opportunity. :( On an engineering forum I visit, drilling a small hole to relieve pressure is recommended! Others say...

    Sewer Manhole

Ok ok, thanks guys I'm flushing more. No more crappy bogs pic needed! But on the subject of unpleasant pics and just to close this thread here's what happened to me just after the drain guy left. My wife suggested that I pick up a rainwater only drain cover. I don't lift that cover often...

    Sewer Manhole

I think it blocks at the end of the pipe just as it joins the manhole in the pic then it backs up. Not much rainwater comes down that pipe, most of the rainwater comes from the other side of the house directly into that manhole so it is after the dodgy pipe. Thanks for all your suggestions...

    Sewer Manhole

That section is all ours. It runs out of the manhole a further 8 meters down the garden into a deep manhole (ours I presume) just inside the boundary where next doors turds also arrive! Then goes out to the un-adopted lane (part of the SW Coast Path) outside our back gate. It only ever...

    Sewer Manhole

I'd just lobbed another bucket of water in it before I took the pic but there is always a little water in the channel part. Does anyone think lining the channel with the upvc would help as the drain guy suggests?

    Sewer Manhole

I have a problem with constant blockages between two manholes which are 11 metres apart. I've been chucking a bucket or two of water down it every couple of months to keep it clear but if I forget to do this it blocks. I've had a drain insurance for 20 years and never claimed so got them in...

Zanussi Chest Freezer - Does this sound like failing thermostat?

Back sooner than I thought! I'm struggling to get the new thermostat probe back in. It has a nice plastic tube to guide it and it slides into it perfectly but it comes to a sudden stop with a light clonk with about a foot of the probe still to go. The old probe is the same. As is the bit of...

Zanussi Chest Freezer - Does this sound like failing thermostat?

I don't defrost it that often. But after it completely stopped freezing the first time, we defrosted and dried it out fully. Six weeks later it failed again. (It's not a frost free freezer.) I have ordered a cheap thermostat to see if will keep going more than 6 weeks! I was quite happy...

Zanussi Chest Freezer - Does this sound like failing thermostat?

I've decided to just replace the thermostat as a test. I have it freed from the freezer but I can't work out how to separate the actual thermostat from the plastic panel. I'm hoping it doesn't come as one big expensive thing! Does anyone know a good place to buy a new one? I don't want to...

I went to Spain this week and despite what the anti-Brexit scaremongers on here said……

I would, and there are thousands more, it's just that many are not members of this forum. Before Brexit I hardly ever got my passport stamped but since, it's been done diligently every time. And it pays to make sure they do it because that's your proof of leaving, otherwise you can be accused...

Zanussi Chest Freezer - Does this sound like failing thermostat?

About 3 months ago the freezer suddenly began warming up. I emptied it and defrosted/dried it all out. A few days later I tried it again and it began cooling down and was again working perfectly. I didn't trust it, so I put the outdoor thermometer from my weather station inside and set up...
