    Fixing pinched light cable

Ok thanks. How do I find out if live and earth are touching without cutting the wire?

    Fixing pinched light cable

Yes, evrything else in the house works even the upstairs sockets (apart from one at the bottom of the attic ladder). I presume this is on the same circuit as all the lights

    Fixing pinched light cable

I was standing close to it but not directly above. You're right, the only way to find out is to a temporary repair to see if this cable is the problem. There is no tear to be seen on the cable, not on the outside anyway. It may be damaged inside? Ideally I would like to isolate this part of the...

    Fixing pinched light cable

I was up in the attic walking around at the time. The light had been on for a good 15 minutes. I wasn't anywhere near any switches or cables. Only the ones under the flooring

    Fixing pinched light cable

Ah I see now what you mean about maintenance free. There is no outside light, hasn't been since I moved in around 7 years ago. At the time it first tripped there was an extension lead and a lamp plugged into the socket. The socket is on the wall at the bottom of the attic ladder. I have...

    Fixing pinched light cable

I don't know for sure that its the trapped cable however, this seems the most likely as I've recently installed a section of flooring on top of this cable. I was very careful and no screws were anywhere near any of the cables. I've been walking a bit on this section of flooring today too. From...

    Fixing pinched light cable

Good evening, The upstairs lights have tripped a not coming back on. I was in the attic at the time and thought it may be caused by a pinched cable under floor. I have raised a section of the floor (the one recently installed) and saw that there was a pinched wire (you may be able to see from...

    Removinh tiles without damaging plasterboard

Hello, I'm looking for advice on how to remove ceramic tiles off a bathroom wall without taking up chunks of plasterboard? So far I've started by chiseling under the tile and trying to lever it off. The problem is that whilst levering the chisel it sinks into the plaster board creating a...

    Outside tap

Thanks, that explains why all the taps still work. Judging by the height of where the pipe in the conservatory goes into the bedroom I now think the pipes leading to the outside tap is under the raised chipboards floor in the bedroom. A strange place to put a stop tap though??

    Outside tap

Hi all, Still no obvious sign of a stop tap so I've started opening some boxed in pipes to try to find a stop tap for the outside tap. I have found a pipe that was boxed up with a stop tap that's fairly close to the outside tap that goes upstairs. The stop tap was in an open position. I've...

    Outside tap

Thanks. I wonder what's the reason for turning it off in the first place was . I will keep searching for the elusive stop tap/valve. Thanks

    Outside tap

It has not worked since I've moved in. The pipe goes into the wall directly behind the tap and cannot be seen from the inside so not easy to follow without possibly taking off plaster boards on the inside. It there some sort of gadget that can detect pipes behind a wall??
