    Problems fitting steel channeling

LOL ok fair point. I'll fit it with screws and plugs and whatever that yellow thing is! I would have used round conduit pipe as I have some spare but I had to run a few cables including a scart cable which is obviously too big to fit through. Cheers

    Problems fitting steel channeling

I'm having real problems securing steel channeling to a brick wall. I've chiseled out a 1.5" channel in the brick and was wanting to cover with steel channeling. The capping nails are splitting the brick either side of the channel and the nails don't hold. Same goes for the mortar as well...

    Fitting LV downlights in ceiling

Thanks for responses. So just to clarify I need to drill a hole at least 50mm from bottom of joist or preferrably the centre. And this is required even for low voltage cable (i.e. the LV output from transformer)? I guess with the help of an extension to a flat wood bit this would not cause...

How to insulate under uPVC cladding

I'm going to replace T&G wood cladding with uPVC on the outside of my house. I suspect there will be minimal insulation under the boards as it was built in the late 60s The boards are nailed to a frame and on the other side (inside) there is plasterboard. I would like to fill the void...

    Fitting LV downlights in ceiling

I wand to put two low voltage downlights into a downstairs wc. I also need to fit a pull switch as it will be in the wc room. unfortunatley the area above the ceiling is covered by the bath so I won't be able (easily) to lift the boards above. As its low voltage is it ok just to run this...

Adding plastic T box into metal conduit

Well the electrician came round today and finished the job. Instead of breaking the ring he's fed the two sockets back to the consumer unit and run them as a radial circuit. I wished I had though of that!

Adding plastic T box into metal conduit

wow this has raised a lot of debate. The conduit is under a suspended floor and is attached by crampets/saddles to the underside of the joists. The conduit itself is a straight run with bends horizontal and vertical up to the sockets. So from what you are saying the conduit would have...

Adding plastic T box into metal conduit

I need to add two sockets to an existing ring main. Metal conduit was fitted originally and and earth wire runs within the conduit. I need to cut into the conduit to run the wires for the new sockets. Can I use a plastic T conduit box for this and if so should I fix earth clamps to the...

    Great thanks.

    Adding FCU to ring

Hi, I want to add a FCU for a wall mounted heater. Rather than add it as a spur I was going to make it part of the ring as I need to feed another new socket in the area. Is this acceptable or should FCUs be on a spur only? Thanks.

    Kitchen sink waste outlet height

The sink is beside a west facing window and does get quite a bit of sun. Going by the weather we've had (mainly rain) I suspect it may something to do with the trap. I'll look into the Mcalpine kit and see if this may help. Thanks for the advice

    Kitchen sink waste outlet height

Hi all, I've been getting quite a bed smell from our kitchen sink when it has not been used for a while (e.g. coming back from holiday) The sink has a main bowl with a smaller bowl in the middle and the waste attachment for the sink runs down at and angle to a bottle trap. Because of the...

    Noisy downpipe

I'm guessing it makes the water trickle down the chain rather than dropping quickly onto the bend.

Fascia removal on flat roof with felt

Ok so if the worst come to the worst and the strips are all nailed do I: Cut the nails and try to bond the edge to the fascia or Cut the nails and leave as is or Remove the edge strips and fit new felt which I can bond to the original top felt layer?
