Dying wood, dyes, formulas, methods etc.

You did. Its my mistake calling it "french polish" :D I'm after very glossy finish on shousugiban/yakisugi surface, which is very textured by nature. I might try actual french polish later on, on some figured maple maybe. Although, could you elaborate as to why is it i shouldn't use alcohol...

Dying wood, dyes, formulas, methods etc.

Hm, we actually use morrells two component paints in the workshop, need to bug my boss about it. We have distributors close'ish. On a side note, anyone tried the food colouring wood ? seen some examples on youtube with some good results. Just waiting on my sander to arrive today to scrub some...

Dying wood, dyes, formulas, methods etc.

Looking at their website they dont offer anything i want. no concentrates, no colour choices. Only premade finishes, stains, oils and waxes. I'm interested in alcohol dyes that can be mixed to get custom colours... and how to do it :D

drawing scale reading digital vernier caliper ?

As long as pdf is not sent over in bitmap form it would be doable, except the pc i work on is ancient, autocad is also ancient. I do that for lasercutting/engraving in my shed a lot (former signmaker, know my way around vector graphics in general).

Dying wood, dyes, formulas, methods etc.

Need to dye/varnish some pine boards, dont know a lick about this topic. Alcohol dyeing specifically, not staining. I need to get an emerald green made up, with kind of french polish going on top (high gloss). Going on cedar/pine. Something i can mix myself and something i can get in UK...

drawing scale reading digital vernier caliper ?

well, this is the "why" - i get a lot of incomplete drawings (of known scale), as in measurements missing (or present on other drawings in the set i dont have access to). For now i do with scale ruler, but it would be miles faster to just set a digital vernier to needed scale to get missing...

drawing scale reading digital vernier caliper ?

Well, its a weird one. Anyone ever heard of vernier caliper that can be set to read to set scale ? 1:10, 1:20, 1:50, 1:250 etc ? Mostly to check paper drawings that are printed to said scales ? Yes, i know how to read vernier, and yes, i do have a scale ruler, and also yes, i can math :D but...

Gloves for handling freshly cut mdf

In shop issued gloves hands always sweaty and in cold shop it feels like i'm working in waterlogged gloves. same with some rubber coated ones i tried. Also, palm rubber gloves i tried usually too stretchy on the back, slips off while gripping things. For quality of rubber, though - many gloves...

Gloves for handling freshly cut mdf

Any idea what widely available gloves would be best suited for handling fresh cut sheet goods (mdf, laminated mdf, machined solid wood sharp as heck)? I'm getting all cut up pulling parts off saws, my cnc etc. Has to have some sort of grip layer as taking dusty mdf is really slippy. Breathable...

My front door has no threshold support (Ed.)

Talked to one of my neighbors, they replaced door some years ago and it was the same as mine. I'd like to see what a properly built entrance should look like. At the moment i'm thinking just pouring a concrete slab under existing door, leaving maybe 5mm under the frame to get a level surface for...

My front door has no threshold support (Ed.)

We recently moved into this house and still discovering corner cutting in building quality. House is built in 1999/2000. So, i decided to replace my 25 year old front door (upvc) to composite. Surveyor comes in to measure up and upon lifting top step of entrance we discover my current door...

Small induction motor table saws ?

I'm in a market for a small table saw, but specifically induction motor powered. Why ? Universal/brushed motors drive me nuts. My measure of noise is my Luna 250s miter saw, which is direct drive and induction, when idle is whisper quiet, but powerful while cutting, also has a brake, aaaand cost...

Refinish kitchen cabinet doors, but they're unsandable...

Yep, its thick plastic, i suspect pvc based, about half a mil thick, definitely not your traditional vinyl. I have no clue of the process of making this covering, but i assume the adhesive seeped into mdf making it wholly unsandable. Also its definitely not contact adhesive for laminating, we...

Refinish kitchen cabinet doors, but they're unsandable...

So, moved into my "new" house, kitchen cabinet doors are, well, oof... That thermo formed covering is peeling off, some places previous owners tried to reglue etc etc. I jump onto youtube to look at howto's on refinishing doors. What i find is - "rip off old thermoform, sand, paint". Well, it so...
