    Big mistake !

I've opened my big mouth, saying to my wife our kitchen island was looking a little tired. Big mistake ! We're now replacing the whole kitchen, will I ever learn. To save a little money I'm hoping to re-jig the lighting myself, replacing a single switch that turns on two lights to...

Removing paint - steel wool reusable?

Yes it's not a problem just wash it and use it again, that's if your using it right away. If you wash because you've finished with it make sure it's dried, it rusts quite easily T

staining or painting a varnished gate?

Hi ukflyer It's going to be hard espcaly if it's just pine; the first coat will have really soaked in and sealed the wood so the stain will not be able to penatrat. That the end of the day you can try a couple of things and if they don't turn out as a last resort it can always be painted...

    damp, mould , hairline cracks?

Hi channy00 Although your heading mentions mould you don't actually say you've got any. If your worried about it forming it shouldn't do with just a leak that was sorted out right away, it's only when it's constant damp like condensation or damp from a constant leak. However if there is...

Hi channy00 Ask yourself, what you think is a good weekly wage; that's what you charge less your inexperience; if they know your inexperienced. It will all be good experience for you so don't feel hard done too if they knock you down a bit. One other tip, landlords want top jobs done...

    Damp & Mould

REALLY old farm houses usually don't have a damp course or cavities in the wall, so if it's not coming up the wall it's coming through the wall, it can also go up the wall on the out side and then go in the wall when it finds a good bridge. Will your pocket stretch to this, Get some 2" X 1"...

    Painting a decorative fire surround

Hi emlo68 You need to know what kind of paint is on it. Other wise I'd always go with an oil base first, MDF and water just don't mix. How ever if there's a water based paint on it now no reason why you can't put the same on top. Good luck T...
