Thanks for the responses guys, but..... rings!?... spurs!? I don't know all the terms I'm afraid, so I'm going to need need words of 2 syllables or less! I'm not sure what the wiring is like leading into / out of the socket because I haven't had it off to take a look yet - I'll check it out...

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the guy who told me to leave the cast guttering just didn't fancy replacing it! Shame, it means forking out over 1400 for the lot - but if you want the job done properly.....
