    Boiler maintenance, with minimal use?

Thanks for the replies. Running the HW for 20 mins a day seems a good minimal time.

    Boiler maintenance, with minimal use?

Hi All help will be much appreciated. I have a newish, regular Worcester boiler that was installed in November 2022. This question relates to days/weeks/months when I have no need for CH. Is it better for the boiler if I heat up the water for 20 mins a day, or 40 mins every other day, or...

Is the Timer faulty, and so soon?

Many thanks for all the replies. As I struggle to believe the loudness levels are thought acceptable, I will press British Gas for either a replacement or one that is equivalently priced, or even cheaper, but won't potentially tick.

Is the Timer faulty, and so soon?

Is the Timer faulty, and so soon? Dear all, I would very grateful for all advice with the new Timer I have. Last November 2022, British Gas installed a new boiler and a separate new Timer in the kitchen. The Timer is a ‘Drayton SM2’, with a mechanical dial, with 4 timing tabs. Up until May...

A New Boiler? Buy now, or wait till next year?

Thanks for your replies! I've got an engineer coming round next week for a quote. I'll see how much medieval torture he'll apply.

A New Boiler? Buy now, or wait till next year?

Many thanks for your replies. The boiler I have is a Maxol MicroTurbo 40H MDF. There's an attached picture. I was wondering whether gas companies will push for more boiler sales this year with the thinking that people won't have as much money next year because of the horrendous energy price...

A New Boiler? Buy now, or wait till next year?

Hello one and all, I have a very old boiler, which may last one more winter? I've been told by the gas engineer that there would be almost no available parts for a boiler this old. However, I'm wondering whether it would be better to purchase a new one now, or would I save more money by...

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

That's a good idea Harry. Thank you. I have some very valid help now.

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

First of all, many, many thanks for your comments. They are very much appreciated. To respond: the F&E tank is in the loft, and has lagging around it. With my CH system, as I can work out: The rad pipes run in/are embedded in the thick internal, insulated wall panels. Then they run in the...

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

Thanks Harry. That's a good assumption to accept the sytem now has no or little inhibitor in it. A question I have is: if I put in X500 inhibitor would that provide sufficient protection against freezing over the winter, if the boiler does fail?

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

Many, many thanks for all the replies. Cheers Schrayder. Rob, the potential rust going round the system later on sounds a very valid concern. Following on from Harry's point , would it be best to put in inhibitor now whilst the boiler's working, then I wouldn't need to drain down at all, and...

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

Thank you Rob for your reply. Following on from the above and my concern with a boiler failure and the pipes freezing, would the rads rust that much if I drained down the system and left empty for a couple of months, then refilled, but the cleaning and flushing would actually be done eventually...

How long can I leave a CH system empty of water?

Hello everyone, I have one main question. And I have extra details below if anyone wants more information. Is a drained down, empty CH system more corrosive to the insides of the pipes, rads, boiler, etc, than a system that's full of water? I haven't been able to as yet get a new boiler...

What causes condensation IN double glazing that has NO SEALS

Thank you for the replies. I found the website helpful. And I'll check to see if rain water can get to beyond the surrounds.

What causes condensation IN double glazing that has NO SEALS

Thanks for your generous replies John. The house I'm in is 19 years old now. The windows at the front of the house (south facing) had been replaced before I came here 2 years ago These windows are fine. The older ones at the back are the originals, so it's fair to say it's not surprising...
