Answering my own question, I think! Apparently holding the "OK" button on the boiler unit for 5 seconds takes control from the room stat. Vigman

Thanks. I have now also found out that the MT10 dip switches simply hit a lever one way or another for on and off and if this lever is stiff it will not be operated by the MT10! There are only room stats in this unit, so I think a good idea might be to fit a room stat and bypass the MT10...
