    Converted porch entrance render issue

Hi My front porch way used to have a sliding door at the very front. (Where my cuppa tea is!) This was removed leaving the upvc door. As you can see the porch was rendered. But where the old sliding door was at the very front there is a plastic dpm which wasn't removed and just rendered over...

Outside fused spur to garage. Fused removed but tripping consumer unit

Hi I need to changed the socket in my garage as its cracked. It's fed from a house socket which is fused externally. From the fused box it goes to an armoured cable to the garage. The fuse is removed, does this mean that there should be no power now to the garage?

Rewiring a bungalow with loft conversion

Thanks for all the replies. Have an electrician coming this week or next. The electrician who installed my hot tub wiring last week mentioned about wiring being aluminium downstairs, maybe I misheard but he did say it needs redoing whatever it is. He will be changing the consumer unit as well...

Rewiring a bungalow with loft conversion

Hi My bungalow has a loft conversion using newer copper wiring done probably 25 years ago. Downstairs is aluminium? How hard is it to rewire a bungalow with a loft conversion as regards access. I assume all upstairs boards will need to be removed? There are 2 bedrooms upstairs, 2 downstairs...

Exposed tops of bricks pillars. How to seal?

Hi. Please see attached pictures. Unfortunately no room for a coping stone. I'm think I'll have to go with the dpm and mortar again unless you folk have some good ideas? I'm really stuck for room due to the facial and roof design which isn't ideal.

Exposed tops of bricks pillars. How to seal?

Hi My garage is letting in water from the brick pillars. I have one pillar at each corner and 1 either side at the half way mark. Between each pillar are just rendered breeze blocks. The roof only overhangs approximately a 1/4 of pillar, exposing the tops to the elements. The top of the pillars...

    Crumbly garage concrete floor

Hello! My garage floor isn't the best. It has brick built walls but on a concrete slab. I've no idea if a dpm was used when built. Anyway it appears during winter mainly that one end of the garage floor gets very damp and if you leave anything on the floor it ends up rather wet on the surface...

    Nicola Bulley

If you look at the bank where the said bench is, you can see the river bank has had cut outs put into it by man, probably to make it a little bit safer. Yes the steps are still mud but a lesser chance to slip than a steeper bank. It

    Damp issues inside

My partners house appears to have a damp issue at the bottom of an internal door. I believe where the door is now was once a solid brick wall but was cut out and had a door put in for a later extension that was built at some point. It looks like 2 extensions have been made into one at some...

    External silicone tips

Hello! I've removed all the old white silicone from around my window that's in a brick recess. Thankfully all sides peeled off leaving no trace! My question is.....I'm going to tape on the upvc to have a nice straight edge.....but do the pro's tape the brick as well, personally I can't see the...

    Garage roof wet on inside

Was just a bit concerned as never noticed it on a felt covered garage roof. Just concerned the moisture shall rot the wood on time..... Included some pics you should be able to see the moisture line on the beams and also beading on the boards.

    Garage roof wet on inside

Hi 3 years ago a friend of mine had a new flat garage roof installed using 18mm osb and firestone rubber with some form of liner between the two. I've noticed that inside the garage this time of year the osb is very damp and forming a moisture layer which seems to be across the entire area. The...

Worcester combi boiler hot water issue

I've got a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28i junior combi. When I have the eco button on so no preheated water it works fine both hot water and heating. If I run eco I struggle to get any hot water but the heating is always fine. When demanding hot water in eco mode the boiler tries to fire up and...
