Cellar Coal Hole Cover to Window

Hi Matt, Thanks for the reply. The reflective surface is a super idea. Yep i do agree the chain is much needed. I can see people attempt to lift up. Perhaps if i use laminated glass this can have a cut out for the existing chain. As for channelling any water, strangely the cellar does have...

Cellar Coal Hole Cover to Window

Hi Tiger, Thanks for the suggestion. One of my concerns is that placing glass to the underside of the coal cover, still means water will collect between the patterned gaps (glass bottomed fish tank as you call it), whereas I'd prefer if the water were to flow/run off. A possible solution for...

    Sun Tube/Tunnel installation

I'm also shopping around for one of these. Positioning it internally is fine, but is it necessary to place the sun tube at the highest point of the roof? I'm assuming it would perhaps get the most natural light this way, but not sure. Any ideas? Also is there much difference in light flow...

Cellar Coal Hole Cover to Window

I want to convert a coal chute cover to a window. Has anyone had experience of this? The current cover is on street level and the angled chute flows in to the cellar. The cast iron cover has gaps, which make the cellar very cold and with heavy rainfall small puddles appear at its internal...

    Fire Door Location

No loft conversion. Basement but not used for anything or habitable. Just a rented house (not bedsits) and i want to change the doors to a more modern finish.

    Fire Door Location

2 Storey house. 2 Beds on the first floor and 1 on the ground floor. Do all habitable rooms need to have fire doors, or just the door at the bottom of the stairwell/staircase? Have mains interlinked smoke alarms on hall of each floor and kitchen.

    Bottom opening or top opening?

If a ground floor room is used as a bedroom, does the window still need to have a bottom opening as it would on the first floor? It's a 1600mm high at present and has a small top opening, not enough to climb out of. That said, it's door is just off the hall, so maybe the window doesn't need to...

If a property is being purchased directly from a vendor (i.e. not involvement of an estate agent) is an EPC needed?

Stoneclad house and damp proof - advice please

endecotp: Thanks for the reply. I'll certainly turn to the forum for advice. I was a little concerned as one of the surveyors mentioned the moisture could be in the joists and this can't be seen unless joists are removed.

Stoneclad house and damp proof - advice please

I'm in the process of purchasing a mid-terrace house which has stonecladding to the front of the property. I've had an independent survey carried out and the assessor noted using his protimeter mini that there were high readings of damp to the front room wall. I think it showed 50 (not sure...

GSM Wireless Alarm Advice - Pyronix / Visonic

I'm looking at fitting a new alarm to my home and looking at either a Pyronix or Visonic, preferably with a GSM module, as i don't always have broadband/landline. Is there a great difference in quality between these two brands?
