I am looking to replace my boiler from an old open vented system to a new combi boiler.

I have looked at the Vaillent range and wish to go ahead with this make, i have been looking at the following models:

Ecotec plus 837
Ecotec plus 937
Ecotec exclusive

I have a 4 bed house with a bathroom which has a power shower (salamander 45 pump). and 13 medium size radiators

Which is the best boiler to go for and can i use the existing power shower with any of these boilers?

Has anyone come across any problems with any of these boilers?

thanks
Jerry

I have the 937 as my name suggests :D

Fitted in October, no problems with it so far.

Brilliant DHW performance and quiet in operation.

AFAIK you can't have the shower pump with combi boilers.

It's possible to heat a hot water cylinder with a combi, and have some outlets fed from the combi and some from the cylinder.

You can't pump a mains supply.

If you're satisfied with the current hot water performance, why not consider switching to a system boiler such as the Ecotec plus 600 series? This way you'd get the advantages of a sealed system but keep the existing cylinder.

My parents have a 615 and like David's it's very quiet indeed.

It's difficult to compare, as noise levels are different in different places, and obviously a 37kw boiler needs to move a lot more air, water and gas through it than a 15kw one. Also I don't see many new boilers, as I'm just a householder.

That said, I have a Glow worm 15hxi and it can make a real racket at times - I think the Vaillant 400 series are the same machine near enough.

I think the quality or timbre of the sound can make a big difference, sometimes a quiet sound can be really irritating, or something loud can be inoffensive, depending on the tone.

Interesting.

My boiler is definitely louder on DHW than CH, I thing it's because CH is at 14kw and DHW is 37kw.

Yes, for a certain amount of heat, you need a certain amount of gas, and a certain amount of air in proportion. Given that the fan impeller and passageways inside the boiler don't change in size, the noise produced will increase as the heat output increases. Much the same way that wind noise in a car increases as you travel faster, or the way a gale is louder than a light breeze.

Yes, you can also hear the fan going faster if your outside near the flue.

Personally I think you do not need the 937 for your set up.

I would go for the 837, as the only real big difference with the exclusive is the 3 year warranty, which I as a Vaillant installer can give on all the Ecotec Plus range.

I would suggest you look for someone in your area who can offer the same.

thanks for all the advice. Is there a noticable difference between the 837 and 937 in terms of hot water output in litres per minute?

If i have to get rid of my power shower then i want something with a good pressure output - or i guess getting an electric shower may solve that.

Am having a quote done next week and will discuss the 837.
thanks again

The 837 and 937 have the same water heating capacity and is the same combi part of the boiler. The difference is the 937 has a hot store system behind the combi and this improves the instantaneous demand and water longevity according to Vaillant.

Mine is extremely quiet in operation and I have not noticed any difference between HW and CH noise though I did notice when outside near the flue that the fan tone, which is very quiet anyway, changes depending on the heat demand/burner modulation. That said I moved it to the garage below my house where I believe all boilers should be! Downside is I sometimes don't know if it is running or not!

If you look at the Vaillant website it gives all the data you need in the brochures, etc.

If you use a combi you will have mains pressure water to the showers so don't need any pumps, etc.

The thing is that when the hot water tap is opened the boiler also fires up the shift load pump which adds to the noise, still it is exceptionally quiet.

these people are well known for there blown air heating they now do boilers
based made in nothampton so british made

has anyone installed one any problems

i have calculated my combined heat requirment for my 2 bed semi
need about 8kw

but i have an 28kw boiler would i be safe to down size
