I got my attic converted last year (3 Bedroom semi D), I was installing insulation into the crawl space, and notice the RSJ beam at the end wall was sitting on 2 blocks of wood. It looked wrong is this standard ? or do I get the Builder back??

Are you sure there was not a steel plate between it and the timber under it which may have been hard to see. Also are you positive it was bearing on this and not just blocks of timber sitting under it looking like they are touching it?

Have a another look with a torch and take a photo while your there. or a bit more description.

 It could be that the builder timber wedged the steel on the outer leaf then secured with masonry and mortar on the inner leaf or vise-versa?

In any case there should be padstones or a spreader plate, yes/no?

Looks to be resting on a slither of chip flooring and then onto a timber beam. If so, then it's not right.

that certainly looks bad, are you sure as noseall said there is no masonary or other steel supporting it anywhere else near that end?

If your sure there is not then it definately needs attention

Might be a timber framed building. In which case, there's nada wrong with steel sitting on timber, providing the bearing has been checked out.

Tbh, from that photo, you can't tell *what's* going on with any certainty.
