basin mixer tap - low pressure

Hi,
i've read a few posts on the forum to do with low pressure systems and mixer taps not working due to the height of the cold water tank and lack of pressure.

I stay in a flat and the pressure in my basin mixer tap is very poor, not what it was when i had the old single taps connected. Confusingly the bath mixer taps work ok, albeit they are about 1 foot lower in height.

I believe that the new basin mixer tap is a 1/4 turn tap, would fitting a 3/4 turn mixer tap help solve the problem... or am i best just to disconnect the tap and ram it down the salesman's throat who sold the bath suite and taps too me

It's worth checking the quoted operating pressure of your basin and bath mixers - it's possible the 1m difference is the cause (that only adds 0.1bar) or maybe the basin one is faulty?

I have a similar low pressure gravity system, and after much hunting have used Tavistock mixers on bath and two sinks. They are quite noisy but are quoted by Tavistock to work from 0.1 bar upwards. Good luck.

have you got fashionable Italian taps with small internal waterways? Have they got little pipes sticking out of the base, the size of pencils?

A tap designed for use will always give a better flow than one designed for looking at

You need to make sure that you have a tap that is designed for low pressure systems. If not the tap and the skinny tails that link the tap to the pipes can kill the flow.

Another thing that won't help is isolation valves. If you have the type of isolation valves fitted that need to be turned with a screwdriver, then these won't help. Bin these and fit full-bore lever types.

check every thing ie what is the min op presure on the tap if 1 bar then forget anu thing else but i had this several times iso valves, flexis squashed washers etc etc

but its probebly just another high presure tap on a low presure system

you can get low presure taps that will work on low presure from companys like pheonix whirlpools google it , still look the same

thanks everyone,
unfortunately there was no manual or instructions that came with the tap, as such i don't know what the minimum operating pressure is. I'm going to phone the retailer and see if they know. I'll post a reply as soon as i know
