This is my third posting in as many days - I've just bought a house and am finding many problems!

It looks like i need the cement replaced between the stones on the side of my house - where the chimney is behind the wall (and the chimney as well). Does anyone know if this will be an expensive job - it will probably involve scaffolding so builders can get to where they need to be.

Got no money...will this lead to serious problems if I leave it for a while?

What about a photo? What about some more info? You haven't given much away, so its a bit difficult to give answers.

If its an old house, cement mortar is probably a bad idea.

IF nothing like damp is showing inside then leave it for finer weather as by your description it is on the chimney stack walling.

If you don't mind heights then why not try it yourself in the spring hire the tower with integral ladder [you climb from the inside to each section.]
Get a mate to tie the buckets of materials to a rope and haul away.
Take loose off put new on by coating first with unibond glue diluted to 1 part glue to 5 part water [when dry this stops suction of water from cement]. When dry coat again with 1 part glue to 3 parts water allow this to become tacky then start cementing and stoning. wet stones go on better than dry ones use pea shingle. I'm saying this if it's pebble dashed walls. cement mix is 5-6 parts rendering sand to 1 cement. too strong it starts to crack.

Before breaking out the PVA, and since you have got till the spring, have a read here, If your building is lime mortar, then use the same for repair.
