When I opened the door there was a loud crack and the door dropped straight down. It would seem that the 'counter balance' facility has disappeared. It is a SGV53E33GB model. Is there a parts diagram anywhere to show how the counter balancing is achieved?

Go here & type in the full E-number (BTW yours is missing 2 digits at the end) http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/spareparts/search Go to spare parts list & diagrams, on page 5 you can see the door spring & tension assy. You need to take off both sideplates to determine what has happened & which parts you need to order (if any). It will either be a snapped tension cable, dislodged spring, or broken cable connector.
