Hiya, we had the same problem - our electrician was trying to fit the smaller version of the Ikea Hektar lamp, and couldn't get a hook that fit properly. So I rung the Ikea helpline and the woman asked someone in one of the stores, and eventually they identified the right hook, which they do apparently sell separately to the lamp. The Ikea article number is apparently 101.319.77, you can't seem to buy it on the website but I think its available in store. Anyway, as I phoned up, she was able to send me them as a goodwill gesture free of charge, so I hope they will arrive shortly. Top marks for Ikea customer support helpline, it was a long wait but when I did eventually get through she persevered until she had a solution for me! Hope this helps!

the answer is to introduce an elastic element to the suspended light, i used a hairband, folded up and placed between the hook and the cord ,(by then i had no plastic bracket, i had destroyed it in a rage trying to get rid of the annoying crack that you get between the ceiling and dome, that unites all of us here!!!!)
then, when you pull down on the cord, there is a slight bungee bounce, only 2mm, but enough to close that gap, you push the dome up, pull the cord down and tighten up grip, all at the same time, sounds more difficult than it is.., when you let go, bingo!, crack gone...
I recon an elestic cord, wrapped around a goose neck (u shape) in cord would be best, but not much room in there, so don't be afraid to get rid of their plastic bracket...
or maybe a rubber gromet in-between hook and bracket/cord where i placed my hairband
terrible flaw this, i don't mind too much about details, but the crack was most unacceptable...

It's gotten to the point where if a thread pops up that I haven't seen yet and it has more than a few posts, I automatically check the date the first post was posted. Sure enough, they're usually old ones
I usually remember to do that, until Mr Merlot interferes with my thought process..

As long as its a possible solution to the existing problem, whether a current or 2 year old problem and keeps it all tidy rather than loads of posts repeating what was said last time.
Some here tend to encourage new members to look in the Wiki or use the Search facility before posting and thats possibly where the old posts reappear and ive seen current members link to old similar posts to help.
Most of the regulars should ring a bell with some of the odd members names in the posts and how 2 pages can generate, when most of us are barely off the site for more than a few hours.

I agree, and I've made that point in the past - that it's not at all unreasonable for someone to resurrect an old (maybe very old) thread if they have a similar problem. As you say (and I've said before) that has the potential to avoid unnecessary repetition of things that were written and discussed in the past.
However, that sort of situation only represents a relatively small proportion of the resurrections. More commonly, someone (and quite often one of us 'regulars') actually accidentally offers a reply to a question which was posed (and undoubtedly "well answered"!) a number of years ago - whereupon a fair bit of unnecessary further discussion often occurs before anyone notices the age of the thread!
It's certainly not the end of the world, but it can be a bit annoying!
