Draper Expert Brush cutter two stroke

Hi

Can anyone assist please I am in possession of a Draper Brush Cutter 32 cc
Someone has returned it having burnt the piston and cylinder by running it on low oil mixture with the fuel,
I have ordered a new cylinder and piston along with the gasket but unfortunately the piston rings have not come with the piston, on contacting the supplier they inform me they are unable to supply the piston rings due to the the fact are not made anymore, any advice please on where I can purchase these rings as the machine is virtually useless without them
Hoping someone has an answer

You'll need to carefully measure the piston diameter with a vernier caliper, then measure the ring thickness. After that, have a look at the GHS website for rings that are compatible.
Personally I always thought rings came automatically with a new piston :eek:

Like John I always thought, and in many years have not seen a kit without a ring/rings The supplier is surly selling under false pretences, I can't think when would need a cylinder rebuild kit without a piston ring . TbH and not wishing to seem unkind, I would only entertain rebuilding better quality machines and if they can't supply rings would return the lot and either buy a better machine or buy similar/aldi lidl for less than £100 .
I neither lend or borrow , if a friend or neighbour asks I would rather offer to use a machine for them if I thought refusal may cause offence.If hiring I would only entertain using a 4T Honda that doesn't need fuel mixing!

thank you for the reply I have contacted the supplier and they admitted they made a mistake and will rectify the situation I will let you know hen all is sorted thank you
 
Careful with those ruddy gudgeon pin circlips.....easy to lose them and never re-use them if the engine has been run :eek:

is this guddgeon clip the ones that secure the piston to the upper crank shaft
 
Yep, it secures the piston to the connecting rod. Tips.....! The piston will have an arrow which points towards the exhaust port and correct orientation is vital; to remove the gudgeon pin, heat the piston up with a hot air gun.....it will then just push out.

well supplier just rang said they no longer stock parts for my strimmer refunded the money or in the process, it appears we are in a throw away society beggars belief

I think youll probably get rings from GHS Ltd, notice the piston has pegs to stop them rotating and the rings have stepped ends to accommodate them.

There are companies on the internet that can manufacture rings. I had a set made up for an engine on my narrowboat. Look at vintage car and motorcycle websites. To be honest though they are expensive and, as suggested, it would be cheaper to throw your item away and buy a better make. Draper do supply some nice and cheap things but their goods to tend to be at the throwaway end of the market.
 
It wouldn't surprise me if the draper is the same (or very similar) to a few other strimmers of Chinese origin. Probably still not worth repairing though. Keep it for parts or future project.
 
Thank you all for the replies much appreciated seems like it will live at the back of the shed now, it appears they bring a new model out and discontinue making parts for the old ones, do not hold old stock either

If you already have a new barrel and piston - but are short of the rings only - I think I'd bash on and finish things?
