So our faculty is currently planning to replace the old toilet cubicles installed in our school’s washroom facilities. The cubicles were really old, and the doors won’t even close or open properly, so it’s really a matter of privacy. One of the faculty members recommended this provider of school toilet cubicles. But prior to contacting them, what important features should we look for in the new toilet cubicles? We want something that’s safe for the students to use, and can also provide utmost privacy to each user. Any ideas?

A toilet.
Somewhere safe to hang their bag (boys as well as girls) while the use the loo, the floor is certainly not a good place for it.
washable walls or walls that cannot be written on.
free wifi
filled bog roll dispensers placed at the right height for all, not just the sitdowners and midgets.
no gaps that other kids can mess around through.

A means to un-lock the door from outside for when the person in the cubicle is unable to open the door. ( medical or drunken collapse being one reason )

powerful ventilation

impervious flooring, turned up at the edges like skirting, so the floor can be hosed or swabbed, and floor drains so there will be no floods even if there is a leak or blockage

sufficient room for less-able users

lids on the WC pan. The aerosol spray of pan contents on flushing is very unhygenic and will splash over the occupant of the cubicle.

easily removable and replaceable seats and lids

coat hooks

falling butt hinges so the doors of unoccupied cubes will swing open

a shelf where laptops or books can safely be put

PS4.

touchless flushing (wave your hand in front of a sensor).
bidet
hand wash sink
magazine rack
GSM blocker
tablet on the door inside that auto scrolls through school news and information while they sit.

:)

Yes, also some Poocraft, call of nature and a little game of thrones. :)

Whatever else you specify, do not use MFC (melamine faced chipboard) as a part of the partition system. Specify CGL (compact grade laminate)

Overtime. Cleaner. Security guard. Weekend cover.

Put it on a timer then, so its only active during set hours. :)

The important factor is the age of the children. Primary School age generally aren't too much of a problem but at Secondary School they can systematically destroy a toilet cubicle surprisingly quickly.

We just used to stick with the market leaders, I'm a bit out of the loop on school projects now but firms like Armitage Shanks, Bushboard, Vanesta. They generally have good guidance on the sort of design aspects and features for school toilets.

The other thing to bear in mind is to keep an eye on the bigger picture. I don't think we ever did a school project where we just replaced the cubicles. It was always a full refurb including sanitaryware, wall and floor finishes etc.
