I need to change my euro lock barrel for my front door. The current barrel protrudes around 2mm from the external mounting. I measured from the centre screw to the external mounting and it comes to 33mm. Having a look online, I can see locks only come in multiples of 5mm which would explain why it protrudes 2mm (i.e. the lock is 35mm long on the ext side).

1. Is this an acceptable protrusion?

Hypothetical question but:
2. What if the measurement was 31mm on the external side. Is it better to get a 35mm with a 4mm protrusion or get a 30mm with it being 1mm inset?

Thanks in advance

Great thank you. Just out of curiosity, why unlikely for #2? My current locks are 2mm longer than needed because the measurement is 33mm from centre screw to outside mounting..
Dimension are to accommodate what’s generally available by way of door dimensions.
You locks are not longer than needed, they are correct.
