Going back to the original query, there would be no problem with joists sitting on top of the Catnic lintel but why have you finished up with the ceiling at the same level as the door head so that can't then be done ,what is the ceiling height in the garage

I think you are confused Nose a pole plate would be situated
on top of floor joists near the eaves catching the rafters.

Yes, a pole plate is a different thing - pole plates are similar to purlins but used where ceiling joists are above wall plate level ( see NHBC Standards-pitched roofs -traditional cut roofs )

Why is it irrelevant if the joists are not in and it is only built up to door head height
Do the joists have to span in that direction , is that the shortest distance , what is the ceiling height you have decided is suitable, can it be raised i.e. is it too late to change the design to get a better arrangement
