Do I need to fill these gaps, or will my tiler just fill it?

Putting up hardiebacker boards for tiler, but a gap in one place and a broken bit in another. Will a tiler expect these to be filled? Can I just use poly filla? Obviously another board still to go on next to where it is broken.

Hardiebacker is water resistant.

Polyfilla - well it depends what you use.

The tiler will fill with tile adhesive, which probably isn't water proof.

For small gaps I'd use silicone.
