Which screw ?

Yes, so long as they have the lengths you require.

If you are not a serious DIYer who tackles all kinds of different things these will be fine. I tend to do a variety of DIY projects so have multiple sizes for multiple jobs otherwise I would select something like these.

I used a shelf as an example

id like a set of assorted screws for use in wall plugs for interior use

I’m just curious as whenever I buy light fittings etc they always come with silver screws with thread that reaches to the head of the screw however my wood screw set had gold screws with thread that stops about 1 cm below the head of the screw and had a cut through the thread.

being as most of the diy I’ll be doing will consist of light fittings, photo frames and general stuff I’m not sure wood screws are the correct type?

In my experience as an amateur diy-er, the fixing screws that come with fittings of different types are pretty rubbish. The standard wood screws people on this thread are recommending will generally do a much better job for the kind of jobs you're talking about.

As a rule of thumb, I tend to go at least 10mm longer than the screws supplied. My experience is that a 50mm wood screw will do most of those jobs, so I always have a box of those, and then if I need something longer or shorter, I'll have a good excuse to buy a box of a different size screw.

In my experience the size of screw you need for the immediate job, is always the one size missing from the ones you have.

i guess its down to some law or other.....
