Pressure wash scam left our roof damaged and ugly

I fell for a roof cleaning scam where the cleaners used pressure washers on our concrete roof tiles. They left a fair amount of damage removing the moss but they have also stripped the tiles of any colour. We've had the damage repaired but the other major problem is that our house looked quite nice before with a dark roof that matched all the others around us. We now have a drab grey concrete looking roof. It looks horrendous.

Is there anything we can do? I see that this forum is really against painting roof tiles. I don't quite understand why because the new replacement tiles seem to be coated with something, presumably paint. From reading more it is because it is highly likely the paint will peel after a few years?

The neighbours acknowledge that it looks really ugly but suggest just waiting three years and it might start to gather moss again but that is a long time to be looking at something we really don't like. There is a reason people put effort into their houses, because they like to live somewhere that looks nice to themselves.

What are our options?

If using large boulders in landscaping that are too clean looking, smearing them in liquid cow dung can speed the the process of lichens and moss etc to grow on them, it really speeds up the process of making them look natural.

It would be a very bold move to do the same on your roof, the neighbours would really think you ha gone completely mad. t would be a bit stinky for a while too.

Painting it with yogurt (seriously) will help to encourage moss growth.

Is there any water damage inside the loft space?
that is probably a better idea than the cow muck for a roof in a neighbourhood - LOL - need a lot of yougurt though

We don't have a loft, this is a bungalow with eaves rooms in the second floor. No visible water damage in the upstairs rooms but there would presumably be a sheet and insulation between us and the tiles so may take a while to show :(

Will the tiles will eventually return to a darker look or is that gone now?

Sounds quite dire really. So painting is completely out, there is no suitable product that would last solidly for 3-4 years? We plan to lift the roof in the future when we can afford to do so and could replace the tiles at that point but that is, as I say, about 3-4 years off.

3-4 years isn't too bad in the scheme of things - plus you could consider having small concrete tiles ( assuming yours are large) An 80's house near where we lived changed theirs ( guy was a proper roofer) and it looked so much better.

We have small tiles already (possibly 267 x 165mm (10.5" x 6.5")).

They probably looked like these ones when new as we have some that still look like this:

Now they look grey, and I mean dull, washed out concrete grey, completely noticeable compared to all the surrounding houses. My wife is furious with me, seriously ladies and gents, is there really nothing I can do besides replace all the riles? I'm open to any ideas.
