I have laminate on concrete floor.
I need to put a door stop in.

Is there anything special I need to do when making a whole + using a rawlplug?

I have a door stopper installed in another location - never stays fixed. I just gave up and left loose.

I was guessing that drilling concrete was maybe different to brick?

Sounds like such a dumb question. LOL.

Any idiot proof advice would be appreciated.

Drill through the laminate first with an hss bit, then use an sds drill and masonry bit to go through the concrete.
Use a fischer sx plug long enough and an appropriate long and thick enough screw.
If you're concerned about laminate movement drill the hole in the laminate one size larger than concrete and push the plug past the laminate.

You can use a plastic or nylon plug, the head of the plug set below the laminate. The hole depth should allow for this. But you will likely be drilling into screed which is much softer and more pliable than concrete, so the problem could re occur. Check there are no buried CH pipes, underfloor heating or even cables. In older property there may be a damp membrane near the surface.

If the door is internal, a stop, properly fixed, might still work. If it is for a heavy external door you might have to keep it open with a hook, or wedge it.

Blup

Thanks for the replies guys.
I suspect the first concrete floor: I wasn't going down enough.

CH pipes - how could check for that?
The location of the door... I doubt there is any cables or pipes.
Having said that... the door is near the boiler... so maybe not true.

Door hook... maybe. Will look up.

Alternately use something like CT1 to glue it to the floor. you may need to weigh it down over night though.

If the door handle tends to hit the wall, I find it sometimes helps to fit the stop to the wall, where the handle will hit it.

I realised something... I don't think it's a concrete floor! ‍‍
It's in a new extension that we had done a few years ago.
The original side is concrete - but not the new one!

CT1 glue - never heard of that!
Just looked it up. I don't fancy that. Since if it comes off, then there a big circle + I doubt just the circle will come off - and more will be taken off the edges?

I'm guessing a wood screw would do the job.
The room the door leads into has had piping done to have a toilet and sink. So need to make sure these are avoided.

The feel of a wood floor, when you walk on it, is totally different to a concrete floor. Wood will have some bounce and sound hollow, concrete will feel very solid and sound solid.
