"Fellow Conservative MP Dame Andrea Jenkyns also attended the event for Reform UK's honorary president.
Meanwhile, there was a video message from former US President Donald Trump, who described Mr Farage as a "prophetic leader".

"Mr Farage began his political journey as a Conservative but quit the party in the early 1990s over its then pro-European stance.
He was warmly welcomed at the Tory Party's annual conference in Manchester last year, where he was seen dancing with former Conservative minister Priti Patel at a karaoke party."

It's the names they give these parties that make me want to puke. 'Reform' UK ... into what exactly?

To a large extent, unless the plan is to go all dictatorship on us, it doesn't matter who's in power. They all face the same challenges.

It may surprise you and others on here that some people can split their personal life from their political one. Just because you don't like or agree with somebody's political values, it doesn't automatically make them a bad person. Mind you, there is a very well known remainer on this forum who admits that he has fallen out with and now hates his father solely because of how his father voted in the referendum. I find that rather sad and more than a bit pathetic.

Granted I don't have kids, however I do have nieces and nephews who I obviously love and want the best for.

However ...

I get fed up with folk bleating on about the damage older generations have done to this that the other and the negative effect this will have on younger generations.

Looking back through the decades, centuries even, there are numerous times when things were tough for young and old alike, with the future uncertain. That's life, that's the ebb and flow of good and bad socioeconomic decisions and strategy.

I'm sure, if us older folk have fecked things up for younger folk, as those younger folk get older they'll figure out a way to get through. Just as has happened decade in decade out.

There isn't really any "right wing" in this country, apart from the imaginary bogeyman used as compensation when referring to the problems of Islamic extremism. By that definition it seems to involve most of the population including OAPs with names like Horace and Dorris.

The current tory government is one of the most left wing in the nation's history. The other options are virtually identical, in a political situation that has been moving further and further to the left over time. The Blair governments would now be considered right of centre as a result of the shift that has occurred. What was considered normal thinking only 5 or 10 years ago can get you into trouble with the police now.

Reform seem like the only remotely "right" option, but a glance at their manifesto reveals a party that is more liberal centrist than anything. They want an end to open borders - that isn't right wing, it is just a return to normality and common sense. They don't want extremist environmental policies like net zero, again, not right wing. And lower taxes - taxes are high and lowering them a bit is hardly right wing either.

When people howl at the moon about the "right wing" I'm always left scratching my head about what they could really mean...

However, the membership of the Tory party, the people who chose Liz Truss and applaud Braverman, predominantly older people, are out of step with the government, and trying to push ever further to the right, like Farage's supporters and the Reform company. The loony right extremists are fed by their favourite media and are very upset when they encounter the majority of the nation, who do not share their views.

Ah, you're thinking of taxes on the wealth that older people tend to have, and young people don't.
