In his press conference, the new boss of ICE in Minneapolis seemed to be saying they will be going back to the sensible 'targeted' methods which were used very successfully before Trump. But the Washington Post is reporting that Trump is already getting pushback from the MAGAs who want him to continue with the violent jackbooted trawling and intimidation. Which way will TACO lean in the end. My bet is that he will stick with the MAGA loonies who like to see this sort of thing:

Of course this was all before the left wing violent loonies started protesting against them in the manner that they do. They just think that they are so entitled to abuse these agents with no repercussion and interfere with their operations that ice had. to become armed. They forced the issue and become shocked when ice shoot them. You cannot deal with the lefty loonies in a normal and rational way.
Well now they know. Did it stop the protests? Did it chuff, it just made even more numbers join and that is probably why the orange idiot has backed down and is quietly removing all those involved in the catastrophook.

They're a bit fecked up (in the States I mean) when it comes to guns, however so entrenched are guns in their history and way of life, many of them still can't see it. And their gun lobby was (still is?) very powerful and influential.
I think Trump said a couple of years back after a shooting in a school that the answer was more guns e.g. 'we should be arming the teachers!'
When you look at the situation with Alex Pretti and how it played out, in the UK that scuffle would have taken place with a protestor that didn't have a gun, and riot police that typically don't have firearms but have batons and sprays.
I know which country I'd rather be living in. And we need to think long and hard about saying stuff like 'that's the sort of action we need over here!' (i.e. an ICE agency with similar powers) cause you never know, one day it might just be one of your nearest and dearest that decides to attend such a protest ...

You have got it all back to front. Trump has deliberately told the ICE goons to work in a violent and provocative way. Experienced officers confirm this in newspaper interviews. And Trump gets them to record everything. ICE have made countless videos of themselves acting in a brutal, militarised fashion and have posted them on social media for the MAGA loonies. With the extra funding they have received, ICE could have arrested just as many people by working in the traditional low key, intelligence led way. But Trump's aim all along has been to provoke violence and confrontation, so that the regime can use it for propaganda purposes.

I had heard the term 'sanctuary city' a lot, but hadn't looked before into what it means. It's pretty interesting.
Basically, it means that the city authorities don't go out of their way to alert ICE to illegal immigrants, unless they are serious criminals. It's basically a live and let live approach to illegal immigrants who keep their heads down. It doesn't, however, mean actively protecting them. All the research shows that the sanctuary city approach leads to less crime, a stronger economy and better community relations.
