Because only an idiot would spend £15k to get from their home country to the UK just to be given £10k to return. That would involve going through a terrible and dangerous journey in order to lose £5k overall. Think on...

Why do you think it costs £15k to travel across Europe?

Dinghy to Spain, then just a bunch of cheap train and bus fares, then jump on another dinghy in France. I reckon £2k would cover it, assuming you're sleeping in a tent, under bridges or whatever.

That's not what my Googling shows. And it's not what the government research shows.
 
I'd guess the government assumes everyone stays in 4-star hotels and gets taxis everywhere, just like they do, as it's the only world they know.

OMG they are not flying here business class, their ticket home will be paid for by our government plus the 20k from sweden, plus the same from Germany, plus our 40k, think on... think on...think on....
