I’ve got a few years worth of old copper pipe and fittings to go and weigh in. So far I’ve cut off all the brass/compression fittings and got them in a separate pile, leaving a load of copper pipe which only has end feed/solder joints. Any idea if that constitutes “clean copper” and is worth more, or would I need to cut out every endfeed joint for that?

Sounds like a faff. Are the gains worth it?

I’ve got a good amount of the stuff, and shedloads of lead, so deffo worth the trip I reckon. Weighed a far smaller amount in years ago and got maybe £70 ish.

Here in London they pay for clean copper when there are soldered joints.

I'd check with the yard first. #1 copper in the ones 1 use means no solder, paint etc.

Round here they accept tube with soldered fittings on . Lots of paint gets knocked down to next level.
I weighed in yesterday heavy copper £7200 per tonne. braziery £6100 per tonne.
Mixed brass £3600 per tonne.

Don't forget to take some ID with you, ISTR they ask now.

Yeah it’s all very above board now, they don’t even pay cash…

AG recycling in Kidderminster are paying £8200 for clean copper and £7800 for braziery

Is my maths right:

£8k / tonne = £8 / kg
22mm pipe = ~0.5 kg/m = ~£4/m
15mm pipe = ~0.33kg/m = ~£2.70/m

That’s a bit less than half the price of new pipe.

Tungsten carbide is what you want...£80000 a ton, £80 a kilogram.
Check out any old drill bits or cutters. It's not as magnetic as steel and does not rust.
