Reports say the mother went to collect the blade from the scene.

I can't find any more details, though.

Was this before the police arrived. Had the accused hidden it.

Nobody should carry a blade, regardless of religion.
One could make up a religion today and claim that for religious reasons they need to carry a loaded gun.
Total nonsense.
Besides, I know lots of Sikhs and they don't carry blades, unless they're going to a ceremony, in which case they have it in the boot of their car and only take it out for the religious ceremony and pictures.

I was sad to hear about this. The contact I've had with Sikhs has been very positive. Hard to believe what has happened. I'd think this is a genuine mental health issue.

based on the Jury's verdict it wasn't enough to persuade them it was a factor.

There’s something definitely wrong if you carry an 8 inch knife.

I know a few Sikhs, great people.

I agree, he was obsessed with knives and that was nothing to do with his religion

The police have issued a half-hearted and doublespeak apology for Henry's death. Not mentioning how they didn't believe him when he said he had been stabbed, and not mentioning that they handcuffed and mocked him in his dying moments.

Nor have they released the police bodycam footage, which had recorded the arrest
Contrast this with those other notorious police incidents, George Floyd and Manchester Airport, where film quickly went public.
