Social Care Service

There are indeed some very nice care homes, usually these are the private ones. It is also the staff that make the care home. To keep costs down in soicial service homes, the staff can be of a dubious nature as they attract people who are not really very caring but need a job. Private homes usually attract a more professional grade of staff due to better pay, this is all hit and miss though as you can get social service homes with some great staff, I see all of this through Lena's eyes and her talking to me, she really cares about her patients and goes out of her way including taking a lot of them out and organising outings for them at no cost and purely out of her love for these people, she is a specialist in Alzheimers and difficult patients. She is a Registred nurse though and works with others who have the same values, she has reported many instances of bad practices and carers etc.

Yeah, Mrs Mottie says they are a very caring lot in her mums home and like your mums, she can visit any time of the day to check on her which is reassuring.

That is the best sign of a good care home, allowing visits at any time unannounced.

IMO there has to be a compromise between kids not wanting to care for aged parents (as is done in some countries), but wanting to get hold their assets, like a £1m house etc when they die, on the one hand, and the state grabbing a big chunk of the assets to fund old age care on the other.
