Social Care Costs

maybe i'm mis reading it, but it doesnt look too terrible, though apaprently the poor will lose more according to the article..

From October 2023, the idea is that no one will pay more than £86,000 over their lifetime for personal care, such as washing, dressing and eating.

Once people have reached this cap, ongoing costs for personal care will be paid for by local authorities.

Money spent on living costs - such as food, energy bills and accommodation - would not count towards the limit.

The threshold for getting some council support to pay for costs will also be made more generous, with people with assets up to £100,000 able to qualify, rather than £23,250 currently.

Its currently unfair to the better off. The poor get their care for free. The better off, pay for their care until they are poor. Where is the incentive to pay for your own care? Plenty of people hide assets to qualify for grants, so any system that encourages people to save for their own care must be better than what we have today, which is rich pensioners hiding assets and transferring the cost the young.

already started to get rid off assets no way are they getting my hard earned cash

So true - When my father came out of hospital after an operation he needed a few weeks help and care. Hospital arranged for Social Services to come and discuss the provision of such help, all went well until they told him as he owned his own house he would have to pay. He 'hit the roof' and kicked them out, I escorted them to the door and also gave them my thoughts on the matter - particularly as I'd already briefed them not to discuss paying for care with him.
I had to take best part of 3 months off work to provide the help he needed.

meanwhile others would have gifted the house to the dependants or done equity withdrawal in order to make the state pay.
My ex's parents happily transferred all their wealth to the kids so they could milk the system. "I've paid my taxes all my life" was the cry.

milk the system surely you mean getting what your 50 years of taxes and NI was meant to provide and what those that havent contributed get regardless
