Why is Andy moving number 10

Lucy Connolly never had a trial. She was persuaded by a government lawyer to plead guilty, after being arrested on Friday evening and facing court on Monday morning, and was refused bail for no good reason, so couldn't have got her own solicitor in time.

If she'd chosen a jury trial it's likely they would have discussed and considered the circumstances fully and most fair minded people would have agreed she'd been pretty silly but hadn't crossed the line.

This was a very low episode in British legal history where the PM, with high level contacts in the CPS from his previous role, was openly threatening the public with imprisonment without trial (refusal of bail), and stating that sentences would be harsh. This made a nonsense of the supposed divide between politics and the judiciary, he was outright bullying his own voters. This was the moment at which he deservedly trashed his popularity and never recovered, hopefully Andy has learnt from this and this sort of dodgy North Korean style leadership won't be something we have to endure again.

He's illegitimate, has no mandate and only usurped the last waste of space PM 5 mins ago.

And any 'dividend' will be money looted from the shrinking productive part of the economy and spaffed on handouts and freebies for wastrels.

The wastrels make up a good part of the Clackton electorate, twice the national average (36%) is on disability benefit. Turkeys voting for Christmas

You should encourage the right to take responsibility for their actions, are you are so fond of pointing out the fecklessness of benefits claimants. Try applying your brain instead re hashing right wing propaganda

Yes I agree but I don't think that she was actually meaning for anyone to actually set fire to the hotel. A bit like saying "I will kill you if you forget pancake day" that is just in context of a figure of speech, nobody would think that you would actually kill anyone for forgetting it was pancake day. I think it warranted a fine and a caution but not prison. That is my opinion of it, it went too far. I often say the illegals should be deported but I wouldn't want to see any harm done to them or incite violence towards them.

Bail and detention restrictions are not the lawyers decision. Not getting them reflects the seriousness of the case not the professionalism of her brief. Duty solicitors know the game inside out.

I'm not a Labour supporter but I understand our electoral system. We don't elect a party leader, so Andy Burnham is no more or less legitimate that any Prime Minister that has come before him.

If you don't like the truth then just call it lies?

It was an appalling and ridiculous event. The PM going on TV and announcing that nobody who rioted would get bail was utterly unconstitutional and probably illegal.

Even the regulars at ‘Spoons know you don’t get bail for rioting. I suppose if the then PM had announced that people who didn’t buy a parking ticket would be fined, you’d regard that as a left wing plot driven by government links with traffic wardens
