Basin plug removal

Generally they unscrew. If you look under the sink you should see if the bar is spinning with the plug itself, if it is you need to stop the bar from spinning and just the plug top is rotating.
Ahh, so that would involve me having to unscrew the waste/drainage piping to get access to it I guess?

I would just check first, it depends on how it is fitted, some have a 90 deg bar that fastens onto the up piece and some are just all one, if you are turning the plug and it just keeps going, it sounds like the whole attachment is spinning with the plug instead of the plug just being spun to come off the thread.
Yes. The waste will be secured to the basin from below via a plastic threaded nut and washer. The trap will need to be removed first. You might need to shock the waste first in order to to undo it
It's a massive pain as all I wanna do is just use a plunger to free up the drainage a bit.

Yeah exactly.
I gave it a try earlier & it shifted some gunk so I'll probably just try doing that for now.
