    Habitable Rooms, Surveyors etc.

Thank you. Would describing a room like this as a bedroom cause issues with a surveyor's report for a mortgage? I'm assuming there's a good reason given the agent's not doing so.

    Habitable Rooms, Surveyors etc.

I'm interested in buying a19th Century house which has a loft room with a fixed staircase - it has an original small dormer at the front and is fully plastered, boarded, etc. It has been in use as a habitable room (rather than loft storage) possibly for as long as the house has existed (same the...

Friction Hinges - Fitting and Type

Thanks. Problem was the outer edge of the sash rubbing on the frame when closing, seems to have been a build up of varnish/stain where the worn hinges weren't pulling the sash in tightly.

Friction Hinges - Fitting and Type

Thanks very much - length and stack height are correct, but i think I may have the glazed part fractionally too close to the hinge end, which is putting compression along the joints of the hinge as it tries to close. I initially reused the original dome-headed screws, but one was catching on...

Friction Hinges - Fitting and Type

Looking for some advice about window friction hinges - do specific friction hinges exist for wooden windows? I've bought some generic replacements and, aside from the mounting holes being in slightly different places, I'm wondering if they're strong enough. Additionally, I fitted the...

Warmup XSTAT U/F Thermostat - Identify Sensor?

Reset and started again, using the floor sensor setting; now seems to be working (or at least getting warmer when the timer says it should) - thanks.

Warmup XSTAT U/F Thermostat - Identify Sensor?

Thanks. I'm assuming it was installed properly as it apparently did get hot - seems that it has been reset or messed with. I'll try it on manual rather than timer to see what happens. I don't have a multimeter to hand. Presumably with a floor sensor, the set temperature is of the floor itself...

Warmup XSTAT U/F Thermostat - Identify Sensor?

Options are: floor sensor; floor and temperature limit sensor; air temperature sensor; air temperature and temperature limit sensor; regulator control (no sensor, just does a set time on and then a set time off repeatedly) and external control (linked to another stat - pretty sure it isn't)...

Warmup XSTAT U/F Thermostat - Identify Sensor?

I'm trying to programme an existing Warmup XSTAT underfloor heating thermostat, but I don't know what type of sensor it's getting its temperature reading from - is there any way of finding out without taking things apart, other than trial and error? It's for a bathroom, ceramic tile over ply...

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Problem supposedly identified as faulty drier element - drier element disconnected and it still won't complete a cycle. Being told a new element will make it work once connected, fast losing faith in tradesmen ...

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Two people have now looked at it - it definitely isn't showing any fault codes and is turning itself off. I would prefer to find someone who will actually take the time to diagnose what's wrong rather than say it's cheaper to buy a new one, but ...

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Thanks - what difference would the washer/dryer bit make? Extra complication when it's in bits? I would like to find someone who can actually confirm it's the main PCB before I spend £130 on one though.

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Seems the main board may have gone - no fault codes, now stops a few seconds after it starts. Nobody is keen to replace it though (or take it apart to confirm) - don't people repair washing machines nowadays?

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

According to the engineers no fault codes are showing at all - is there anything else I can check?

RC Plus/WR1 - Problems Starting Boiler

A bit of digging suggests this is probably a duff capacitor in the receiver. Will try replacing that first.

RC Plus/WR1 - Problems Starting Boiler

Still having problems with this - the boiler will not respond the thermostat either manually or via timer.. When turning the spur back on and pressing the two buttons on the receiver (as above), the red LED flashes and then goes out whilst the buttons are still held. When the temperature...

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Thank you very much - I'll try to to get the error code and report back.

    Electrolux EWX1440W Washer/Drier - Stops Mid-Wash Cycle

Having problems with an integrated Electrolux EWX1440W which is stopping during the wash cycles and not draining. The drain pump has been checked and is apparently fine and the filters and pipework appear to be clear. Are there any diagnostic checks which can be done to try to identify the...

RC Plus/WR1 - Problems Starting Boiler

Just been through your process again - boiler has miraculously come to life. What I did notice is that the red LED did not illuminate until I released the two buttons - I'll see if it still works via the timer in the morning. Thanks.

RC Plus/WR1 - Problems Starting Boiler

Thanks for the quick response. Just tried that - the Receive LED flashed, but the boiler isn't turning on (no noises, no green burner light). The red LED on the receiver is flashing intermittently now.
