Maximum thickness of mortar bed joint.

Hello. I seem to remember that 30mm is the thickest a bed joint can be (for building regs). Having googled it I call only find anything that states it in Imperial measurements which seems odd. And they state it at three quarters of an inch. Anyone know? This is to correct an uneven foundation on...

Broken flywheel, should I scrap the car?

Thanks people. I've been looking for a price for it's value on eBay etc as suggested. I could probably get £450 as a non runner. Fixed up it's maybe worth£1500 but some sell for less some are asking for a lot more. I'm struggling to find anything to buy locally though. I might start a thread to...

    Preparing base for timber frame.

I have to get the walls up to dpc for the carpenters to do a timber frame extension. The bricks are class b engineerings with 3 large holes. I assume you have to drill in to them for timber frame so in wondering if these will be suitable? Cheers

    Would planning allow these chances?

Yeah. Or say I have painted them but you can't get paint that lasts these days.

    Would planning allow these chances?

Hello. The drawings show about 8 courses of bricks with a plinth course along the front of the house with the words "to be painted grey" it seems now it might look better to use red bricks and not paint them. Also the hatchings indicate the porch will be rendered and white. Any chance for it to...

Rendering below the dpc and Building control.

Thank you young man. I managed to find both the relevant bits I think. At least it's an option.

Rendering below the dpc and Building control.

Just wondered if there's anything against render below the dpc in the regs? Avoiding bridging of course with stop end above and below the dpc. This is on a new extension on the side. Thanks.

    Laying a new service pipe.

Thanks everyone. Had a look today and seems it's copper probable all the way. I couldn't get an olive over it though. seemed to be a little too thick. Don't think there was an imperial one about 17mm? Had to buy a philmac coupler for a fortune. Also I think I've knackered the stop cock on the...

Damaged a tool hire bit. Who's liable?

I hired a concrete breaker and the pointed chisel broke after an hour . Just sheared off a few inches down. Then the spare one did the same. The flat chisel has lasted a week fortunately. Just wondering if anyone thinks I should put up an argument if they make a charge. As it's happened twice...

    Laying a new service pipe.

While digging in the front garden I came across the incoming water pipe. It's 15mm copper near the house. Presumably connecting to lead? I think I will get a new one and contact the waterboard. I believe you do the digging for them So can anyone tell me what depth they should be and can I use...

    knocking sound from throttle

Hard to tell where exactly. Couldn't hear it when I was stood in front. Oil level was ok. Oil was changed a year ago this week though. 15 Old vw Passat diesel. Just normal slow driving was enough at first. Then it seemed to have stopped but I didn't dare to drive it for long.

Anyone know where I can get this oil?

Hello. I need to buy 20w/50 monograde oil. Only need a small bottle but when googling it I haven't seen anything described as monograde. Seen something close like the one in the picture but don't know enough about oil. It's for a whacker plate (compactor). But I thought you on here would know...

    Concrete mix.

I used the cemex Ready mix calculator. They said 3.2m cubed. If you mix it yourself You'll use all in ballast usually. If I remember rightly there's a minimum of.850 in a bulk bag. Allow 6 bags of cement per bulk bag for 6 to 1 mix. Also if I remember rightly.
