    Earth Leakage Detector

I'm thinking I may just disconnect the garage cabling, and run a new cable from one of the sockets in the extension through to the garage. Would certainly seem to be the most cost effective option.

    Earth Leakage Detector

The RCD itself has just literally been changed a couple of days ago by an electrician from 16amp to 30amp as he suspected that the 16amp was tripping due to over current.

Would just a treadmill cause over-current though?

The garage RCD is the one on the right.

Yes the treadmill can be running for 5 minutes or so before it trips. In our consumer unit we have an RCD for upstairs sockets, RCD for downstairs sockets and one for the garage.

    Earth Leakage Detector

How would the treadmill on a damp floor affect things? I can get a picture of the consumer unit, however I don't know how much help it will be as I believe the cable from the consumer has been replaced up to the point where it needs to go outside where its connected via one of those circular...

    Earth Leakage Detector

There are no external lights connected to the garage circuit. The underground cabling though was probably fitted in the 1970's when the house was built, could it simple be that the insulation has perished? The garage cabling may have been changed more recently, but with it being underground I'm...

    Earth Leakage Detector

We have a treadmill that keeps tripping off the RCD when plugged in in the garage, but it doesn't trip of the RCD when connected to a plug in the house (via an extension). The garage and the downsides sockets in the house have their own RCD's. We've recently had an electrician out who was...

Hot water going cold and no hot water from bathroom tap

Come to think of it, we do have a lime filter on the cold water feed and I wonder if that's become blocked like you say.

Hot water going cold and no hot water from bathroom tap

I've measured the flow at around 9 litres per minute. I'm just finding it strange that we've not have any of these problems for 7 year, and now we do. Is it possible the mains supply pressure has dropped recently and that's causing the issues. It's a right pain, because now if someone is in...

    Treadmill tripping RCD

Bought a treadmill off ebay last night. I saw it working fine before I bought it. When I've got the treadmill home and set it up in the garage it runs for about 10 - 15 seconds or so and then trips the RCD for the garage. I'm guessing there's an earth leakage on the treadmill somewhere...

Possible drain pipe problem? Who do we call.

I am presuming a plumber with a camera would be best? Just I have visions of ringing a plumber and them saying they cant diagnose the problem until the digg up the floor to get to the pipes. Where as someone with a camera would be able to have a look a first?

Possible drain pipe problem? Who do we call.

We ripped out our kitchen yesterday and have found a corner of the room is damp on the floor. In that corner is where the waste pipe from the upstairs bathroom enters the floor. We suspect there is a problem under the concrete but we don't know what type of person we ring to fix this? Is it...

Need to raise floor by 1 /1/2 inches!

We're working on our bathroom at the minute, which for some reason has a step down about a 3rd of the way in. The step down is approx 1 1/2". I've kind of ruled out self levelling compound as we'd need a hell of a lot of it. Someone has suggested screwing down 1" plywood, then maybe a...

Removing a kerb if you own it?

We've got a single drive which we'd like to extend to a double. There is no path outside of our house, and from what I can see the kerb outside of our well shows as within our boundaries. Does anyone know, if we want to extend the drive, would we need to seek planning permission of any...

    Testing hot water pressure

The gauge doesn't fit on the outside tap, I'll have to buy something to make it fit. I've done a small test; it takes 4 seconds to output 1 litre from a cold water tap, yet it takes 8 seconds to output a litre from a hot water tap. Our boiler is a 4 month old Potteron Performa HE30

    Testing hot water pressure

I never checked what it did when it dropped. Is 1 bar normal for output pressure from a combi? I always thought the pressure out of the combi should be the same as the mains? Our cold water flows much quicker than the hot

    Testing hot water pressure

It's a combi, I found the problem, the needle was getting stuck, I think I've fixed it so it's now reading only 1 bar of pressure, is that normal? We were kind of hoping for at least 1.5 bar for a shower we wanted.
