    Accidental nick to socket cable

My mistake the 45cm socket height is recent guidance not a requirement

    Accidental nick to socket cable

I have no experience with heat shrink tubing and the 'WAGO 221 2-Way Inline Lever Connectors 32A 0.2-4mm²' (https://www.toolstation.com/wago-221-2-way-inline-lever-connectors/pAC293) is lever compressed (no soldering/special tools/heat shrink) needed so I (as a DIY'er) can do this myself...

    Accidental nick to socket cable

No I'd rather just cut the nicked cable 8cm (where the nick is) then join live/neutral/earth together with the 2-way line wago connectors (wago connectors would be inside an accessible 1 gang backbox with front plate). Not going to replace the short piece to socket. Sounds ok?

    Accidental nick to socket cable

There is not enough flex in the cable for 180 degree turns. So I would use this wago instead x 3 (one live one neutral one earth): WAGO 221 2-Way Inline Lever Connectors 32A 0.2-4mm²: https://www.toolstation.com/wago-221-2-way-inline-lever-connectors/pAC293 is this ok?

    Accidental nick to socket cable

So, out of the options below: 1. Connector Strips 30A, https://www.toolstation.com/connector-strips/pAE651 2. In Line Spring Lever Connectors 3 Pole 32A, https://www.toolstation.com/in-line-spring-lever-connectors/p78346 which one would you pick and why?

    Accidental nick to socket cable

I've read that electricians don't like hidden maintenance free joints behind plaster and that one should use visible plates for access. Also, as the ring main is 32A I would use a Spring Lever Connectors 3 Terminal 32A (https://www.toolstation.com/in-line-spring-lever-connectors/p78346) which...

    Accidental nick to socket cable

I have accidentally nicked a 2.5mm2 twin/earth cable going from the 2 gang socket downward under the floorboards to the consumer unit. The consumer unit did not trip and I think the neutral wire (located about 8cm below the socket) was nicked and I did not get electrocuted and the socket works...

Oil tank additives/cleaner e.g. sludge buster

Worcester Bosch on callout did a dip check in the oil tank and said there was no oil. Fault was one of the oil burners that failed and caused soot to build up. Back up and working. I don't have an oil water separator installed but I did buy a tank sock. Although I'm not OFTEC certified could I...

Oil tank additives/cleaner e.g. sludge buster

After my oil boiler began spitting out black smoke/soot which was 2 days after a recent kerosene (heating oil) top up I am getting the manufacturer (Worcester Bosch) on callout to clean the boiler. The boiler itself repeatedly gave error 9F 855 (probably airlock) and repeatedly cut out. The...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

I only used a mixture of 150mm and 100mm block insulation with expanding foam and grab adhesive on the back of the garage door. All the door is 150mm overall. I did not use screws. I fitted upvc 1.2-2mm white plastic trims to the edges carefully making sure that the trims did not interfere with...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

Yes the bar rotates but the garage door rotates when the bar rotates. I can only adjust the spring with the garage door closed/shut or slightly open. Do people normally adjust the garage door spring with the garage door shut or slightly open? In the video I have seen where the garage door...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

The hole in the bar is from below so I assume you mean the crook pin needs to hook over the tube from below? To hook the long end of the crook pin over the tube I need to hammer the the crook pin, as in position in JPEG 'crook pin position' upwards. Can't see another way of doing it. Am I right?

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

I've attached two pics of the crook pin orientation. I think the 2nd JPEG photo showing the crook pin with the long bit over the white bar is the correct position. I want to make sure this is the correct position. Which position looks right?

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

The Henderson manufacturer got back to me and said that the crook pin needs to not only go through the shaft hole on the right hand bracket but also the wider part of the pin goes over the adjacent tube (see Figure 2 of attached) and not just abutt the tube (what I do not, see Figure 1 of...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

The 100mm kingspan insulation just under the block prevents me from using using two bars two bars as I can only use one of the holes in a position of 45 degrees from facing vertically down. Do my mawl/mole grips that I put onto the central bar (see 'mawl grip' JPEG) stop the bar from rotating...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

The crook pin, when inserted (see ‘crook pin(4).jpg attachment) does not lock off the shaft to prevent the shaft from rotating with the spring plug. I have successfully used the allen key and 1 toggle bar to rotate the spring plug upward (see ‘allen key and 1 pin.jpg attachment) but the shaft...

    Scored 10mm LPG pipe

Fair enough I'm going to drill a larger 22mm diameter hole through the exterior-to-interior-to-kitchen wall to allow, in future, a larger 15mm LPG copper pipe to come through to feed both the cooker and tee off to the lounge fireplace Should I put a sheath in the resulting hole? The gas cert...

    Scored 10mm LPG pipe

If I struggle to get a gas cert engineer to come out and repair what temporary fix should I put on the scuff to 'shore up' the scuff? Bear in mind the gas safe engineer did say there is no leak. Belt and braces approach really to make sure.

    Scored 10mm LPG pipe

I arranged for a gas cert engineer to come round. They tested for gas leak (think they said a monometer) and there is no gas coming out they said it was fine as is. I arranged for them to come round again and drill a bigger hole through the wall to fit a 15mm copper pipe through upgrading from...
